Is there a way to make Se Stop re rendering all the DVEs when I open up the project.?

Options are on the top of the Prefs list, there's one something along the lines of "force render only".

I ended up turning of the rendering in prefs. I just didnt know why it had t redo everything instead of just the new parts in the project.

Well, if that's what the prefs are set for...

The point was, why does it have to render something that has already been rendered . it doesnt save the rendered parts anywhere. No big deal I was just wondering why.I dont remember Vt edit doing this.

VT-EDIT hasn't saved background rendered pieces since very early VT[2] builds. It caused more problems than it was worth.

When you have done something, say a cut somewhere, this changes the timeline cache. It will then rebuild the cache, even to re-bgrender the DVE's, so as the file, cache, knows where/how to playback the file. This is also a normal PC power issue with NT products. The more PC the more program features/performance will be seen.

As Eugene said but Randall, if your system is fast enough, change to force render only and then clips in your project that needs background rendering, enable it in the control tree for that clip under layer settings.

This allows you to pick and choose which clip renders or not on a clip by clip basis and I have found it to allow me to work much faster on my quad core.
You can also create a preset with tool shed and name it render (if you want) and apply it to clips quite easily.
Don't forget to make a render off preset as well to assist in the same manner.

Take care,
