Ok so here is the first attempt at a wolf im furring. This is only using the pixel filter plugin in layout, also I have not done any thing with color. I know there is quite a few problems with it but I have been playing with strand modeler and started over to try and get a better look. Will post updates as they come. Comments and critiques welcome!

Lots of promise on this one....keep going and it will be amazing. I like the fur...color is key on this one..

Yep, color is key...
I forget but isn't there a UV option in FF that'd help out?
but for ultra realism I find that tufting and combing are essential as well.

I've tackled something like this several times with my wolf dog right there to model for me and for what it's worth...here's my two cents...

Note that on many breeds, particularly wolf breeds, they almost appear to have been stitched together in sections. A good example is the area where the two front legs, neck, and chest come together. Another area is around the rump...you should literally see the seams down both legs and framing shorter hair around the tail's root.

I'll have to see if I can't post a couple pics of my dog for an example of this but it's weird that we don't really notice it until it's missing.

I like what you've got so far though...getting the mane and grizzly looking hump isn't easy and you got that down. Nice.

Thanks for the tips addict. I would love to see those pics if you find them. I plan on using the uv for the fur it should come out really well. Right now i'm just trying new ways to put the fur on and see if I can get a better result.
