Lightwave and OpenEXR

I have ready many posts here and on spinquad, OpenEXR in lightwave is still confusing to me. I know there is exrtrader, and proexr commercial plug-ins, but are there any free exr plugins for lightwave?

Can lightwave export anything besides RGBA to openexr with the LWOpenexr image savers?

Yes, if you use the buffer savers. The main downside is that this will give you separate image files. Using exrTrader is definetely a matter of convenience.
