My God man. . .Put the clippers and spray paint down! I think you should go with the finer fur like the cyan and red spotted one and add one or two more lights.

Very cool test, they look fun.
More entertaining than fur balls, but hardly a test of FFX rather than procedural texture antics. Why don't you try to achieve realistic donkey fur? Now that would be a test.

...correct...a donkey is better for testing as a simple ball...you see uv maps
mixed with gradients, procedural plugs and images...

#6 is my favorite of teh bunch
I said "more entertaining", not "better". But as far as I can see you are still not exactly testing Fiber FX. Come on! You should know by now that it works with every colour you can imagine, so why not give those other parameters a go (cf. William's cheat sheets) and give us a real donkey! You can do it!

I like the fact that there isn't a visible banding effect in this render.

Hey safarifx. I've always enjoyed realism, even super realism, in art. I admire it and am impressed even. I can even paint/draw/etc that way. BUT! whenever I do, I end up making sure the realism goes away; that there's no doubt that it's unreal, an illusion, an expression, an imagination. The only reality I'm aware of is that which allows this temporary universe of illusions to exist. I'd rather see zeeboos and zonkeys. At the moment.

the root of the fur is a uv color map and i take that from a real donkey.
here as example the uv map...
http://www.safari-fx.de/monat_september_2008/donkey_for_life_uv.jpg
another thing is that I regulate those hair lengthens over the same a UV map.
i mixed the color map with the hairlength parameters...

I didn't even know that controlling the root placement was possible. Very cool, thanks for the heads up!

its possible and you can mixed and animated all parameters. take as root a uv map. mixed that with procedurals or gradients or wat ever you want.
you can shave your hair length also over black and white image maps/uv maps/gradients procedurals.that mean you cane create every style of hair.
i have now a new job ;)...i am now a hightech hairdresser ....gg*

Not bad dude. you make this look so easy. Any chance for a quick tutorial so that even "noobs" can follow along? :) *hint hint*
btw. I know Proton made some new videos, especially on FFX (thx William) but I like the image which kinda looks like sully from Monster inc. and some others.
I just can't figure out how you get that done. UV, Images, etc. Proton showed us some ways to do that, but it sounds like you combined that all. I must also admit, I'm still at the start of FFX so every bit of info is valuable to me :)
But very cool renders and amusing too

@K-Dawg
Oops...i have not seen your request....sorry...yes i combined all parameters...but i can not total exactly tell what i do. it is for me
easy "to do it" but to tell it is another galaxy than i work for over 12 years
with lightwave...i see no chance to bring all that in your head in a tutorial...but what i do is very simple...i play....i play...i play with that tool..(and that mean learn, learn, learn) every day for 12 years...i spend my life for lightwave you know...thats my own longtime tutorial...lol...you know what i mean ?...self doing is the best way to check it out...(under us..i hate tutorials)...my way to understand is in allways to check out the underground...lol...ok...enough smalltalk...play please with FFX and check for that the input for FFX from william...with every session you go better and better...thats the way of this universe...and is it good so...
