View Full Version : Nice Escherichia coli, with FiberFX
I was toying around with a scene showing red blood cells (a tutorial), and this is the result... The "Hairs" of the bacteria are made with the strand maker in modeller. Used PS to blur some parts of the picture a little more.
They actually look like miniature tampons to me! :D
Nice use of FFX though!

Oh it wasn't a criticism, just an observation! :)

Tampons, Huh!? I did an anim of 4 hero e.coli swiming amongst thousands of other bacilli of various types (yep, HD_Instanced), whipping/spinning flagella and all and my client said they looked like turds even though I shaded and surfaced them to look as close as possible to the electron scans of the real thing they were looking at for reference. Toned down the crumple bump and tinted them a slight bluish-purple and got a timid OK.
Bacterial! They look like turds. Whatcha expect! hehe

You can't polish a turd, but if you get it wet it looks kind of shiny.
I didn't see turds, I saw mirco organisms. Your work looks great, accuracy is important in depicting biology.
You guys are being cilia!

Try making a hypervoxel skin out of the point cloud of your objects. Make the HV's transparent volume and you'll get great, very organic looking shaped to overlay on top of the image you already have. Also you get nightmare render times but it's worth it!

Very nice render. The only thing I would do is to keep two of them, or even all three in focus. Viewer gets kind a lost looking at it right now.
Cheers
Hehe, Thanks all, seems we have a conversation about bacteria :jester:

I work at a biotech corporation for my 9-5 and everyone here loved it.
Very top notch.

Thanks, that means a lot to me.
Actually, I really enjoy doing stuff like that. Maybe I should take a look at biotech companies around here... :D

You might want to do that. :agree:
I've done simulations, product training animations, blah blah blah...
all starting with Lightwave, then take it to the editing level.
I'll never get to work with Will Smith this way, but hey, it's a living
and the pay is great.
I work with indie filmmakers for that fun action, thriller, sci-fi effects
stuff...gotta do it somewhere or I might go through mitosis, myosis,
or worse. LOL.
That's the part attracting my eyes:
the pay is great.
