Hey does anyone know if you can put a sound file into layout so you can key in or lip-sync a character?

Would be real handy if you could put it in the dope track.

Scene Editor: Audio drop down at the bottom. There is a limit of how much time. I forget now. It is only a few minutes 2 or 3 or so. But if you can not hear the audio it might be too long. It does show up in the time line. You can also get the waves to show up in the graph editor by applying the audio channel modifier to a null object. Cool because this will also give you a live cue in layout if you want.

Thanks for that.
However when I do load a sound file in, it gives me a message "Null pointers on subroutine call"

Do I have to attach the fle to something first, if so how would I acheive that?

Strange... I work with audio files in Layout at the moment. Just load it. It should work. Maybe you need to convert it to uncompressed wav?

Yeah I would check the file format. Also there were some issues with the Mac as I recall.

I am using LW 64 bit, latest beta, build 1454 and I don't think there is a limitation on the length of a sound track with the exception of amount of memory you have to store it. I loaded a 4.9 minute wave file with no problems. I attached a screen shot of proving that you can have at least 4 minutes of sound in the buffer.

Also the sound seems to play better with the LW 9.5 than when I had 9.3.1 loaded. The sound doesn't crackle any more when you play it from the time line, or when scrolling from frame to frame.

Syncing to a Wave sound should be fairly simple now that many of the sound issues are addressed.

My question is has anyone tried recording an AVI or Quicktime with sound, I know that in previous builds, you couldn't record sound with the video animation; you had to use 3rd party software to do this.

Cool. I don't remember what the limit was. It may have been updated. I'll have to run another test on that. :)

As far as I know you still can not record the sound. Or I guess you mean render the sound with the animation.

There is another thread stating that the wave forms are not correctly generated, so you can't determine where the peaks and valleys of the sound wave are, which makes manual lip syncing extremely difficult.

The Newtek team are aware of this.

That is interesting. I find the display not really suited for that anyway. I would use another method to cue the animation such as the one with the null above or some other technique/plugin somebody might have that is better.

It's good to know the sound quality issues have been addressed. I'm still using 8.5 and the sound is so bad that it helped drive me toward finding an animation method that didn't involve using the sound in LW. Which, as it turns out, is a good thing.

I've used Magpie in the past. If the characters are BESM (big eyes small mouth) it can do the trick.
