Mistery: 3 boxes have developed a very odd and anoing behaviour with my videocards and under Open Gl lightwave mainly:
Box1: dual core xp32 Nvidia 7600 2 G ram
Box2: Quad core xp64 Nvidia 9800 8 G ram
Box2: Dual quad Xeon xp64 Nvidia 8800 8 G ram
All have a random fliker / refreash / jump on the Open Gl portion of the window screen only, that is Lw mostly. Very anoying.
I did a windows Update, and two boxes have updated Nvidia drivers.
Anyone experiencing this?
It happens with all vertions of LW! including an old trusty 5.6!
( A program vertion that hardly has any bugs ! )
9.2 is the vertion installed.
Anyone has this?
I am using a Samsung 30' Monitor, the problem is ONLY with Open GL !

I think you and I are experiencing the same problem. My system configuration is the following:
P4 3Ghz, Windows XP Pro SP2 32-bit, 2Gigs RAM, EVGA GeForce 7600GT 512MB DDR2 AGP8X
Am running Nvidia drivers version 175.16 XP32 (downloaded from EVGA's website, and is dated early May 2008)
There is a 175.19 Geforce WinXP32 driver on the Nvidia website (I have not tried this one yet..it is only 2 or 3 months newer)
I just recently bought the 7600GT to replace a 5.5 year old Radeon 9000 Pro (which was running drivers from December 2003!).
In my case, it doesn't seem to be random. It seems to happen when performing certain things either in Modeler or Layout. I am running Lightwave 8.5 Here is a link to another thread where I elaborate more on the problem:
http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87197&page=2
Though recently, I have had it happen while playing back the time line or even scrubbing it.
I have also noted this behavior with another program that has a 3D display window (S3D a 3D game modification program). Although that program seems to be Direct X 9.0c based.
I did not have any problem like this with my old Radeon 9000 Pro AGP4X card and I also find it VERY annoying!
Was going to go with a Radeon HD3850, but my power supply is incompatible with it..and I didn't want to have to buy a new one.
I hope there is some fix for this!!

I recently upgraded, like most of us, to LW 9.5. It had been a while since I'd worked in LW and found it behaving odd. The screen would seem to visibly flicker/flash (not unusable, but noticeable). Wasn't sure what was going on so i did some research.
Found many posts from many different websites about the ipoint.exe (service or application) which installs with many (all?) MS mice. It runs as the Intellipoint software and give access to the connected mouse's unique features (side buttons, tilt wheels, etc).
If you disable this it seems to solve the problems. People have reported problems apparently for years with this software and professional apps (LW, Houdini, etc). Disabling it or prevent it from starting at boot time doesn't stop
the software from reenabling itself, though. (So, have to disable after each boot, ideally before using LW!)
Extra points to whoever can figure out how to disable permanently or uninstall this software...it's not listed in my Add/Remove Programs dialog...egad!

You hit the nail on the head! The MS Intellipoint driver was the culprit. After disabling it I no longer experience any of those annoying screen redraws in Lightwave!
On my system, the Intellipoint driver does show up in the Add/Remove programs. But, I did not have to uninstall the driver to prevent it from loading upon boot up. All I had to do was the following:
Start, run msconfig, click on the startup tab, uncheck the entry called ipoint, click OK to close out msconfig and reboot.
Now when you reboot, the ipoint.exe will no longer run. And no more of that annoying redraw crap in Lightwave. I notice that even with the ipoint.exe disabled my MS wireless mouse still functions. So at least I can still use the mouse that I bought.
It is nice to actually find a solution to a problem for change.:)

Go to the control panel an uninstall the mouse drivers.
