You can do something via Trueart CameraMan (http://www.trueart.eu/?URIType=Directory&URI=Products/Plug-Ins/CameraMan). It's free so give it a try (and let me know how it works :) )

I give it a try.

I was hopeing though more for modeler than layout.

It would be good if we could start a pertition getting people to idicate wether they would consider getting the space navigator if it was fully suported for lightwave.

I beleive that there is a untaped market in this area, hope that they get it together.

chunderburger is loling because this has come up several times and there are a great many people interested in using space navigator. But NT has yet to make any response, as far as I know.

Let me give you a little hint: Any time new and cool stuff comes out that would seem to be designed to work with LightWave, the answer is... "no". No GPU rendering, no physics calculated by GPU or external card, no 3D navigation....

I am a LWUser since the early days of Amiga.. .and sometimes over the years I was thinking..... Change!
Now I am the owner of a great device 3dDSpace Navigator... and I found this thread.

Enough is enough... Sleep well NT.
no Cent more from me!

the plugin works in layout, but not modeler.

We bug them about it quite often. Native support would be nice.

I have emailed 3DConnexion (makers of the device), and they say that Newtek needs to support 3D controllers and all will be well. Newtek is at least aware that many of us would like the devices supported, but it is not clear to me if Newtek believes enough of us desire this to make it worth their effort to add saud support.

There are Physics plugins that use the GPU and or External PPU's for LW.
In fact LW is the only software to offer this feat. But there is not a 3D device class in the SDK, which does mean a lot of big changes of SpaceMouse support were to be supported. Meanwhile my Wacom works fine in Modeler, and i won't be changing it to anything else... ;)

I don't know how you tablet people do it. I have a Wacom Intuos 3 - real nice tablet, works great for painting and drawing, but I can't use it for normal computer stuff or as a main input for anything, let alone LW.
Just can't do it, can't get into it, gotta have a mouse, or I'm arbitrarily opening, closing, selecting, deselecting all the wrong things all the time.
Except for ZBrush. For some reason I wouldn't even consider using a mouse in Zbrush.
is there some advantage to using a tablet in LW that I'm missing out on here, or is it just a preference thing?

I would like to add my name to the list.
I got the space navigator and enjoy using it at times with the apps that support it.
Come on Newtek... be the WAVE

Might as well chuck my twopen'neth in. Another request from here.

Or Ninteno Wii remote support, for that matter. Or Novint Falcon. Plenty of inexpensive multi-axis input devices floating around these days, be nice to be able to use the things.

I'd also like to throw my vote in for this. I've wanted to buy one for a long time, but I wont until LW supports it, or Zbrush.

IMI, I haven't touched a mouse in years. I strictly use a Wacom. :)

I would soooooooo not hold my breath.

Alas I did so and asphyxiation ensued. Thankfully however I am not yet fully over my resurrection addiction and have come back to enjoy Space Navigator being fully integrated into LightWave. Have I missed it?

I stepped up to Lightwave a month ago from Cheetah 3d, which has full Space Navigator integration and some really innovative modeling tools (i.e. point slide and a "tweak mode" in which the transform tool is used to select and move points, edges, + polys across all selection modes using rollover highlighting) hint hint ;), but that's beside the point.

Newtek, you should incorporate 3d mouse functionality.

I couldn't get mine to work in Layout with that CameraMan plugin. I followed documentation, activated it under Master plugins but nothing really happens. I got it working in all apps (XSI, Maya, PS and GoogleEarth) except Zbrush and Lightwave. I'll give it a try in Beta testing section.
