I want to share with you this Lightwave 7 to RenderMan RIB exporter. I'm testing the files with the Blue Moon Rendering Tools and work fine but if you find problems (or have suggestions) please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

You can download the plug-in at my site (http://www.deathfall.com/article.php?sid=1985).

From EXLUNA's site:
"You have probably seen the latest news announcing the acquisition of Exluna by NVIDIA and the settlement between Exluna and Pixar.
BMRT™ will no longer be distributed by Exluna or NVIDIA."
http://www.exluna.com/products/bmrt/index.html

:(

Bye.

Is BMRT in the public domain?

No, BMRT is now gone. BMRT cannot be distributed legally anymore except for those who had permission, this was part of the deal between Pixar and Exluna.

However there are many other options like 3delight, pixie, air and aqsis. With some many options these days I don't find the need for BMRT.

twiddling my thumbs (whistle whistle whistle) - If you know the right places to look you can still find bmrt (hint: do some heave searches in cgtalk and 3dbuzz forums)

Actually you can download it from my website but I don't find much reason to do that.

The people of Aqsis is having a hard time looking for users, I think is the right moment to start using their program to learn RenderMan.

Hi,

I've been thinking about trying to use RenderMan + LW and searching the forum I found this thread. I really like LW's internal renderer (one reason I chose to learn LW), but I'm curious about the global illumination options in RenderMan. I'm just wondering if it's worth the effort.

Please, those of you who use LW + RM, could you share your experiences? Do you use LightMan? And what RM? Pros and cons? I'm a newbie here, so I don't really know much.

go to https://renderman.pixar.com/ as that will answer pretty much all your answers. If you can't find the answers in the text on the site download the Renderman Refrence pdf file. It is updated to reflect the major changes since '89 [I think that was the last revison], anyways it is bit technical read but it does give you all the answers. I don't like LightMan as it does not interface IMO as well as MTOR, but you would have to have Maya laying around for that. RMan uses the same technology as the LW render and then some. It is just updated more frequently, if you are a student you can get Renderman 11.5 and Artist Tools for just over $1300, if not a student it is still a bargan at $7500 which is cheaper than what they were charging a few years back.
