I would like to say that although I really appreciate all the hard work put into the features of Lightwave, I would like to start a serious movement to revert the interface back to 7.5 style. The interface they showed in the 8 demo is really awful. It looks like a darker version of 5.6 or earlier..... I am not trying to insult anyone involved in the design of the current interface, but I have been begging for months for a well thought out visual style ala XSI, Final Cut Pro, or just stay with the style in 7.5. (It isn't that bad!)Instead they seemingly modeled the look of the new interface after Digital Fusion wich similar to 3DS Max, and Combustion wich have interface styles that are dreaded through out the industry. The Lightwave users that I work with noticably cringed when I flipped on the stream this morning. Seriously we need to pull together on this one, because we are the ones who sit in front of the interface for 50 or 60 hours a week. Please New Tek Revert Back to 7.5.........Please! I think it would really show that you are listening and that you are not rushing anything without putting serious thought into it first.
Thanks.

Perhaps it's adjustable?

i wouldn't get too concerned just yet about how lw8 looks..
newtek just needed a "new look" to underpin the fact that they are showing a new version of lightwave not a tweek of 7.5

as you know lw8 is still some time off and newtek are working very close with users to make the new U.I look and behave in a very cool way.

Keep in mind that I am not just talking about the color. Although that has a lot to do with it. I am talking about the beveled buttons that changes to the look when buttons are depressed, floating panels, and the overall feel of the interface. I really believe that the personality of the interface is very very important.

don't worry! exactly as Cresshead said, the v8 demo'd at SIGGRAPH isn't neccesary the final version that will be shipped.

We need some screenshots! Can't get a decent enough view of it on the stream to comment on it accurately. For example, the bevels do appear large, but maybe it's the stream quality exagerating it? I dunno. I'd be curious to see some screen shots posted is all I'm saying.

You know what ,I hated it at first.

But as I watched, I never even noticed the interface... but thats probably just cause the stuff they showed was so AWESOME!

Don't you think Newtek would let you change the colors anyway?

I'm a little worried at the sublety of the interface, the size of stuff (bevels, arrows on the popup menus, the button sizes etc) it might sound like insignificant detail, but if it's done without that little bit of sensitivity it could look very crude, and unprofessional.

But a full-size screen shot will hopefully allay these fears!!!!

[i]because we are the ones who sit in front of the interface for 50 or 60 hours a week. [/B]

What's the matter?! Are you on vacation or something?! If I don't loose at least 80 hours of my life in front of a stupid computer it's because some miracle happened!

And you are paid for that or just a slave? Do 'they' feed you with food too? :)

I totally agree! The interface they showed is horrible!
Please just leave it exactly like 7.5 ..AND please allow us to make our own skins...why not? allow users to trade skins, and in a few years 9.0 will most likely use the most popular user skin on the net...

Actually I have seen a screen shot of it, it's not as bad as the streams make out but it does need work!

I would post it but I might land myself in hot water! Unless it's okay by NT, Lee?

From what I can see from the stream, it looks like LW 5.5's button style with a darker color scheme. I like it. I was always fond of LW 5.5's button style and I was sad to see it go in 6.0. I'm sure the colors will be customizable, but the grey and blue they're currently using looks pretty good to me. I think NewTek's in a pretty tough spot, there are always going to be users who resist change and users who want change. You just can't please everyone!

Matt: post it anyway :)

I agree with Dave, I like the looks of the UI in the streams!

If they were good, they'd allow for custom interfaces (button styles, grouped or individual colors, etc.)

Seems pretty obvious that everyone has their own preferences anyway
