Well, someone at my work, here in the UK, has sold plenty and receives his money, without fail, at the end of each month. He had to fill out some form that relieves him of paying additional tax in america, because we're outside of the states. So make sure you fill in the form, and follow all the instructions on their site. It's all VERY confusingly worded and the guy i know went back and forth repeatedly getting this form filled in correctly. You have to do the form once a year too (i have been told), which adds to the pain.
But once you've done this and have your unique tax number then you can get ready to collect your cash!

You don't have to fill any papers to receive your money, the downside is they will keep the 30% extra for uncle Sam, instead of the percentage for your country (mine was 10%). I sent an e-mail asking for my money explaining I didn't want the IRS to have my data.

ok, sorry, i phrased that wrongly... i didn't mean HAVE to fill the forms in, just that for us in the UK we lose whatever % TurboSquid take and then another 30% to tax, which is crazy and almost pointless selling the stuff in the first place.
10% isn't too bad though!

Indeed, it's worse here in Denmark. It's whatever % TS takes and then deduct 50% from that. Which makes it freakin' meaningless to have anything on there.
thanks for the replies
titus i didn't get it exactly.
what should i do now, mail and say them i don't want to fill form and tell them to just get the tax for u.s.

I don't know. All models on TS has to be expensive as hell for the sale to be of any use to the vendor.
It's a balance act between trying to get as high a price as possible for your model, while trying to keep them inexpensive enough for people (not coorporations) to actually buy them, and convincing the buyers that your model isn't just come **** you hurled up and set a 'For Sale' sign on.

I started at TS just as an experiment. I've something like 20 models, all very basic and cheap. In my first year made like $600 (before royalties and taxes).
I think TS is moire like a pyramid scheme, were a few people get the most and the rest get less. I doubt you could make a living from making models unless you have a good eye on the needs of the buyers and model fast. The most downloaded model from my set is a mobius strip, go figure.

Hi guys,
The tax thing can be complicated, but we are happy to walk you through it.
If you are in the UK, which has a tax treaty with the United States, and you get the proper forms filled out, we are not required to hold any additional taxes out of your payments (so 0% withheld).
If you choose not to complete the tax forms, we are forced to hold the maximum which is 30%, but you can still get paid.
Please feel free to open a suppport ticket at : http://www.turbosquid.com/Index.cfm/View/L29YWT
Or read the withholdings policy here:

i'd also add that having your models and contact details on turbosquid models will lead to freelance work...i've had some good gigs from people who found me on turbosquid via some of my old models there...which reminds me i REALLY MUST upload some new stuff...

Now that's customer support! :) Did someone give you a shout, or did you find this thread somehow?

That's encouraging seeing that support email from TS - I've had to fill in these forms often doing work for US companies, mostly publishers - no big deal. It's just that sometimes you have to remind them to sort out the forms, so be thankful that TS are on the ball with this!
I've always been curious about what, if anything, is worth uploading to TS and what sells the most, what general subject area I mean, and who is buying for what work. Maybe I should stop thinking about it and just do it - it's just my experience with picture libraries, which will be similar, is that you just never know what will sell.....if you're not high volume and varied, your chances of selling are drastically reduced.....though that probably applies to the local supermarket as well :D

I just signed on and have to go through my 3d collection and get them ready. I might try those forms later on, the whole process just seems overwhelming.
Anyway, how do you supply your models. Do you just upload a single .lwo or do you throw in an .obj version in the same zip or keep them separate etc.
