File Output Questions

Hi. I'm looking at buying a 3d animation software package. I am currently researching Maya, Lightwave, and 3D Studio Max. I will be using this mostly to illustrate educational dvds (show how different objects fit together etc.) What type of files can Lightwave ouput? Also I find it hard to believe I can get a full animation package at this price. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help.

Also any opinions or comparisons of these software packages would be appreciated.

Lightwave output runs a long list. On the mac that list includes these:
