Good morning,

Recently I tried to repair Windows (XP Pro) and ended up reinstalling the whole thing.

All seemed to be well, my files and programs were still intact. Then I tried to fire up speed edit and it asked me to register it.
I tried re-installing but got the same form.
Then I noticed that speededit had changed my product id, (it's un editable so I can't put in the propper id).

I've tried calling Newtek support yesterday, but as of yet, they haven't called me back. I'm "hopping" for a call by 2 pm today, but in lue of that, is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I'm certain I'm not the first person to reinstall windows, I imgine many of you format your computer on a regular basis.

Thanks,

:seicon:

SpeedEDIT cannot tell your re-installed system from that of a completely different system. So you'll need to run this through customer services to continue with your product licensing. You were trying that route anyway but just in case you were waiting for a magic answer.... There isn't one. Based on reported experiences, you'll get this re-activated without much more trouble.

Thanks Richard,

It would be "nice" if in a situation like this, you could get a 72 hour grace period while you wait for your re-activation. (assuming you re-install on a friday, this would give the weekend plus monday to get a new code).

I was "hoping" there was a place in the registry where I could put in the correct product id, but I guess there is no such thing as magic.

Andrew, I thought you did have several days without having to register it. Or at least I thought??? :stumped:
Some dealers are allowing you to try it with a MBG if you dont' register it.

I believe you are correct,
however, those days have expired because I've had the software so long (a little over a year).

It's ODD but seems to remeber the registration code and that it's been installed already, but not the product id.

seems to remeber the registration code and that it's been installed already, but not the product id.That's because the Product ID changed when you reinstalled the OS, the system's ID is different than it was even if you simply re-installed the same MS-licensed OS, as you did. Been my experience anyway....

Makes sense,
I just wish that if it forgot the product id, it would forget being installed too.
atleast that way, I could still use the software well I get it straighten out.

Tech support is open 7 days a week now, no point in waiting through the whole weekend.

You might try giving a call again, as they may not always be able to return every call from a voice mail (it's not unheard of for phone numbers to not always be understandable on voice mail.)

Thank Billmi,

I must have called at a bad time yesterday, because I got straight through today.
NewTek was very helpful, and it took only a very few minutes to re-register.

Thank goodness for small mircales.

I waited for 30 minutes on hold today and finally left a message and sent email but no response. Guess I'll try another call tomorrow - hopefully I can get back to editing soon.
