LW Book for a beginner...

Hi,

I am new to lightwave, and have followed a tutorial to build an interesting effect (spinning cube with 6 moving videos on the 6 surfaces - pretty cool).

Anyway, can anyone suggest a really good book to teach me to use Lightwave and the Modeler? I would like to know what all the commands and tools do, and I would like it to have plenty of examples.

its a toss up, IMO. The best one I think at the moment is
Essential Lightwave by Timothy Albee. gives an awsome overview
of just about every tool in both layout and modeler with
small tutorials sprinkled throughout (and I'm floating just beyound the halfway point on it now so I dunno whats next :-)

second (at this point in time) I'd say Inside Lightwave 7
by Dan Ablan.
a much thicker book, with more tutorials. my memory on its a bit clouded since its been awhile since I read it.

I think you could do well with either one.

The killer combo for me is
1)The Manual that comes with it (mines is covered in Coffee). Full of Goodies but kind of like reading UNIX manpages.
2) "Inside Lightwave 7"
3) "Lightwave Applied 6.5 -7"

I just put an order in for the "Essential Lightwave 3D 7.5 book"
Seem like a real good book.

i bought inside lightwave 7 yesterday myself actually. killer book.

then again its so big if you hit someone with it it'd be a killer book like that too. :)

For me the Inside Lightwave and the Lightwave Applied books go together. I do one chapter in one then I do another chapter in another. Between that things become understandable in the Manual or should I say "LW Manpages".
I don't think its possible to have a small Lightwave book. I wouldn't want one unless it delt with Lscripting and Pluggins making, oh then I will love one, really love one.
Well the books are alot better than the Renderman books I bought.
