when i try to record video on the tricaster (not stream) the quality is pretty bad is there a setting that i keep over looking or something?

What sort of video source are you using, and how are you connecting it to the TC?

we are using a panasonic DVX 100B and connecting it with s-video cable directly to the tricaster

I can't think of any reason captured video would suffer doing this, although the possibility of a pedestal issue comes to mind. Have you tried DV capture (ie., via IEEE1394) to compare?

Do you capture in MPEG2 Format (TC Software Version 2) ?
We recognized the same issue . Ask the Newtek support for the Mpeg2 Patch (i think its still in beta testing). We installed this fix to our system and everything looks great now.
