Is XP better for Lightwave than 2K?

They both work fine. You'll hear arguments for each one, but it's been my experience that they both work great.

Win2k is lighter on resources than XP, but XP has better compatablitlity with games and legacy applications. I'd go with Win2k if the machine is going to be dedicated as a graphic workstation.

I'm currently running LW on XP  with little problems, but when XP is obselete (or sooner) I'm switching my rendering box to Linux. Is it possible to get a LW version for Linux? if not how would it run under something like WINE or Win4Lin?

Any others out there like to save on reaources and put the power of your computer into the programs instead of the OS?

Although I have not tried it myself, I've heard Lightwave will run under WINE just fine. Some instructions are available here: http://frankscorner.org/lightwave_7_0.html Enjoy!

2K at work all is well - XP at home all is well.

Iv gone with XP Pro since i also play the odd game on here, XP tends to be faster for 3D games than win2k, i dont know if that would apply to lightwave but i suspect the opengl rendering is a bit (tiny little bit) quicker in XP, but yeh it does use up more resources.

When i was thinking of upgrading to XP when it first came out i did some 3DMark tests on win98/me/2k/xp and out of all those XP was well in the lead.
