I liked the scene with the car and the rain drops. How did you go about that, IFW filter's maybe?

The Star Wars clip lady with a laser sword looked very real.

The Japanese style robot toy looked well done, as did the blue sports car.

The only problem I had was with the quality of the video which failed to convey the quality of your work. It was all too bloky and blurred.

It's good to see your work, particularly as your a trained pro now. Thanks for posting and good luck.

Just read the 'rain drop' explanation on your site and found the higher quality video, doh.

haha thanks a lot. The star wars shot looked real because the actors were, they were filmed on green screen. I had 3 days to build, light, and texture the set. The girl's website is www.sithvixen.com and the guy in the Vader costume is www.vadermaker.com

actually I was just looking at Sith Vixen's site. If you click Appearences > Fan Films she has lots of behind the scenes photos from that clip on my reel.

Thanks for that, I've ordered my Vader suit and my next party invite will ask guests to dress as stormtroopers....I intend to make a big entrance. Your invited of course.

Sorry about the real/lightwave mix-up. You just can't tell these days. Maybe you need some text on the demotape to explain in bulletpoints what you did to achieve the shot.

How long did the tape take to make would you say? I suppose getting a proper education in this makes you quick, tricks of the trade and all (3 days for the set....wow). I spend 3 days trying to get my render setting right.

Anyway....good one.

I'll look out for your name in film credits....cya in Hollywood.

Well a couple of these shots were school assignments, so it kind of hard to tell how long they took. The old man, the Gundam robot, and the car took a week each to model. The old mans animation (the vocal one) took 2 days. The girl in yellow (Faye Valentine) took maybe a little over a week, it's hard to tell because I used the body from another character I made.

The short films Chimera and Critter Island were class projects that everyone in the class worked on. I mainly worked on Chimera and the Ice Trawler vehicle. The entire Chimera film is 6 minutes long and took 11 students 5 months. On Critter Island I was in charge of lighting and only worked on it for 4 or 5 days. When graduation was coming close it looked like neither project would be done on time and many of us were sleeping at the school for that whole final week.

How on Earth did you get the demoreel under 5 meg?

Well it was originally exported from Premiere as a high quality DivX AVI, then I brought it into Real Producer and set my target audience to "384K DSL/Cable Modem" and my sound level to "music". That's pretty much it.

Phil, I just watched the DAVE School reel last night. REALLY impressed by some of those group projects! Thought Chimera was cool. Liked the "unleashing" sequence.

Great student work. And now, welcome to the biz...

That is, unless you've already been working in the biz. In which case, welcome back.

Well I'm glad you liked the reel and Chimera. To be honest I still haven't seen the final edit of Chimera. It kept going after our graduation and I had to move back home a few days before it was finished, so I've been waiting for the DVD to come out so they can send me a copy. Where did you see it, on the school's reel?

I let a DAVE School grad who's originally from Phillie stay over for a night here after SIG ended. A former student of mine. He's in Cal now looking for work. He has a copy of the DVD.

Really? May I ask his name? I probably know him. The school is small so you get to know everyone and since I'm from Philly I'm sure he'd stick in my head.

Phil,

Did you enjoy going to DAVE school? Are the school going to give you any help in getting your foot on the pro ladder?

Your stuff is awesome, I really liked all of it!

Adrian.

I enjoyed the school immensely, I can't say enough what a good school it is. As for helping to get a foot in the door. They send a compliation of my work and my classmates out to all the big companies and also that DVD of our final project, Chimera. They also have a website that only the graduates can access with a huge list of companies and job listings.
