I reckon it's a very smart move by Apple to do what they did with the bridge. They can legitimately claim that it is the first 64-bit desktop computer, and they aren't wrong, it's just that the operating system can reach both 32 and 64-bit levels, making it easier to make the transition, as opposed to what they did with the OS 9-10 conversion. That was painful for a short while because there was no alternative.. Anyway, that was an operating system, not an architecture.
Apple seems to be making a lot of good moves lately. Poor windows users having to use Linux! :D (No flaming, this was not an insult, just a small joke..)
