I'm creating elements for a rap music video and need to create a scene with realistic falling money.

I have been fiddling w/ particles and can't get the correct motions.

Any tips?

That is definately a good canidate for Motion Designer. It might be a little challenging if you're not real familiar with it, but it lets you deal with issues like gravity and the fact that the money will flip as it falls creating different resistances allowing for some realistic motions.

Any places w/ good tutorials on this type of thing for a Motion Designer Newbie??

I think that i may have found something fellow lightwavers.

Here's a link to a tutorial using Motion Designer to create motions for falling pedals.

I will try to keep this post going and show the progress w/ the composited footage from the video with the 3d elements.

Hrgriger Thanx,

You da man.

If you have Inside Lightwave 7, there is an example with falling leaves in Chapter 20 (Advanced Particle Animation)... pages 971-979...

Unfortunately, I don't have Inside Lightwave 7, I plan to pick it up.

Richpr, just at glance can you tell me if the link that I posted above is similar in technique to that of what is covered in the book?

It uses FX_Linker... Too funny, I was reading it a bit.... This is how it starts...

"The FX_Linker Tool is a tool that enables you to take any object and use it to replace particles. Think of flocking birds, falling dollar bills, or blowing leaves, to name a few..."

So, I guess it is different, no MD...

The particles are replaced by a clipmap/picture of a two leaves in this case..

i used md for a shot like the one you describe. All I did was clone a huge column of bills in modeler and use MD with a collsion surface (floor) and some PFX wind. I think I used one of the MD presets to start with and tweaked the numbers from there.

Actually, late last night I was reading up on how to execute this through MD and stumbled across the tutorials here at Newtek's site and figured it out with Particles.

Go figure I should have began at the source.

Thanx a lot guys for all the help.

I will be posting some images and movies soon, and plan to try it both ways for people out there who have little if no experience in Particles and Motion Designer.
