Hey had a completely tech question and was not sure where to post but here seemed like a reasonably ok spot to put it so here it goes.

I have two computer "towers" and would like to hook them together to make either one of the towers a completely rendering machine or just hook them together to make them work faster. How would I accomplish this? I am completely unsure of whether this can be done or how to do it so anything would be great Thanks.

You can use ScreamerNet or another third-party render controller, to use one machine as the controlling system, and one as a render node when rendering.

The two systems cannot be used together to really benefit modeling.

Another option would be to have one dedicated to modeling and one dedicated to rendering if that production would benefit you. You might need another license of LW to do that though.

ScreamerNet set up is not really worth the trouble if you only have two machines. Just put each machine to render on its own, using image sequence and not a movie format. Put first to render from 0 - 60 and the second from 60 - 0 (in a 60 frames long animation). Make sure that the one that renders in reverse has the step set to -1 and to to 1.

They will meet somewhere in the middle.

ScreamerNet has some advantages like cuing up multiple scenes and such that this method don't have but besides of that it works just as well if not even better.

Good luck. ///

Step one: network the two towers together
Step two: go down the forum page to the "LightWave 3D Support> LW- Screamernet" section. The top post is a "sticky" about how to set up ScreamerNet.

I would follow the advise of GMD THREE if I had two licenses of LW (one on each machine) otherwise you can't run it on two machines (unless you are using cracked software).

The screamernet manual says you should have machines with the same brand of processor, otherwise your images will be a slight different.
