...a PS3 at work!

We had a Future Session where we at Massive were divided into groups, 5 people in each group, and we got this awesome competition; each group should bake a cake (including buying ingridients). The team with the winning cake would get either a PS3, XBox 360 or Wii each. Our team won and now I have my PS3 hooked up in my network at home. :)

I got Metal Gear Solid 4 with the machine as well.. Have yet to try it though. :)

Hehe...

I know there were pictures taken. :) But I can't access them now though (at home now).

I'll see if I can get hold of them on Monday. :)

Ohh.. and a really cool thing about the PS3 is that it has something called Folding@Home which is a network that allows my PS3 to connect to the internet and use the CPU-power to help Standford University with Cancer-research!

Huge props to Sony for implementing that!

I'm also quite impressed with the OS... very intuitive and easy to use. Downloaded some movie trailers (Full HD) and I'm currently downloading some gamedemos!

...and I've not tried Metal Gear Solid 4 yet... :) (doing some Folding@Home though) :)

Hey, congratulations, Cageman! :)

The prize doesn't seem right though. Wouldn't you have preferred maybe a new mixing bowl or an egg beater? ;)

Thanks guys!

I picked the PS3 because of blueray. I havn't owned a console since Super Nintendo, and if I don't get "hooked" on the gaming side of PS3, I, as Jin and JeffrySG said, at least have a Blueray player. :)

btw, my daily gaming websites:

www.shacknews.com
www.bluesnews.com
www.ve3d.com

all of them started as primarily pc gaming but they cover the whole spectrum now. if you're gonna start the habit, gotta get it started right... : )

have fun.

no actually, i'm primarily a pc gamer but i like to keep up on all the tech stuff.

was considering getting the ps3 over the xbox because of the bluray thing (and even more so now because bluray won over hddvd) but then i remembered i don't actually have an HDTV yet and i can't help but feel that i'm not getting my money's worth if i waste all those pixels!!!

for an avid couch potato like me, there's probably not a better buy in the world than an investment in a hd set but dang it, my frugal ways just won't let me plunk down that much money for a tv. especially since if i get one, i would HAVE to get a 1080p set....

so yeah, i'll probably sit out this console cycle until hd sets come down in price.

but enjoy metal gear... the graphics look amazing and if history serves, the gameplay should be awesome... don't know why konami took the odd stance in its reviews censorship this time out (just look up mgs4 and reviews restriction to find out what i'm talking about if you don't know).

also hear assassin's creed is very cool with an unbelievably cool twist to it.

ooh, and i just heard on friday that they're gonna come out with a ps3 controller that looks like the one now... BUT, you'll be able to twist them apart into two handheld controllers that have accelerometers for nintendo wii like games. nifty stuff!

Well...
I started a thread around here somewhere about Assassin's Creed - and it somehow or other resulted in me buying S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. Go figure. (exceedingly cool game though I've not tried the online version yet).

But, Assassin's Creed... Well, at first I thought it was really cool. Great idea, excellent graphics, and they could have done alot with it, but... well, let's just say the less nasty of the reviewers are largely to be believed. It's fairly redundant.

Fallout 3, Half-Life 2 Episode 3, and the next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. version are the ones I'm next most looking forward to, all due out this Fall, and the not-too-distant future will bring a COD 5, and hopefully, Elder Scrolls V... and who knows what else. I'd like to see a less linear and more expanded sequel to Bioshock.

WHAAT?
Oh man. And you know, it was only maybe two weeks ago I voted on their site to the question of where people wanted COD 5 to go. I voted for Future battlefields. Oh well...

WIC *is* very cool. I bought that just 2 weeks ago and am still learning it before I try to go online with it. Loads of strategy, very nice graphics. :)

That's a huge downer... :( I really like COD4...

like... I LOVE IT! :)

And yes... WiC is the effort from Massive Entertainment, where I work. :) Soviet Assault is going to be really cool! :)

Congratulations.

You can also fold with your PC. http://folding.stanford.edu/ It'll only eat up CPU cycles while your computer is idle so don't worry about it interfering with rendering or slowing down your computer or anything.

yeah, the distributed processing thing is awesome... not only in tech but in the humanitarian purpose it serves. good stuff.

man... if they can only figure out a way to distribute data packets for rendering like they do this protein folding computing, we could just, as a community, sign up our spare cycles to a "lw rendering hub" and have community render farm.... it seems it's impossible to break it down into chunks without sending the assets and stuff too though...

but i'll bet it's possible! i just hope the computer scientists hurry up already!

yah, COD5 is gonna be ww2 and in the pacific... ugh... i hate the pacific theater... for some reason it always strikes me as not only dull but kinda tacky. not only for games but movies too... flags of our fathers just didn't do it for me....

actually, a cool way to go for COD5 would've been VIETNAM! that might've been an interesting funhouse mirror look at current events.

btw, that new wic sa trailer is unbelievable.

The Pacific Theater doesn't hold much interest for me either. If they had to do WWII I'd prefer the invasion of Normandy. Oh well.
Vietnam might be interesting. One thing that surprises me is I don't think there are any real mideast war games. You know, Iraq, Iran, war on terror and so forth. That could be interesting.

I love COD 4 - online version, that is, but if it has one fault it's there aren't enough maps. There are about a dozen or so, but I'd prefer they forgo the single player version entirely and make it all just online, with a hundred or so high quality, expansive maps.
I'd also prefer there be more "consequences" when you die, like a several minute wait before spawning again. It might deter all the run 'n' gun-ers from being so reckless just to rack up kills. And I'd like it if we had vehicles and aircraft we could use - at least a helicopter with guns and missiles. Canon and mortars would be cool too.
Well, maybe they'll ask me to design the next one. ;)

Crysis online is really cool, but rather difficult, IMO. At least you can drive vehicles in it.

Jin: Thanks for the nice comments! Do you mean the HighRes TeaserTrailer or the InGame stuff? (actually, shouldn't matter... the InGame stuff is quite amazing if I may say so myself). :) But I work in the Cinematics department...so... ;)
