Note that SpeedEDIT needs a sound card to run. Be it a real sound card or a motherboard based audio solution.
You can't use your VT card for SpeedEDIT audio.

Ditto to Eugene posting. Goto Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and select your win or SB card. Start SPEdit. Minimize SE, go back and select VT audio, Start VT, and you will have audio in both programs. You will just need to test the SPEdit output setting to see if it will show as a chnl on your VT3 switcher.
TIA for posting your sys.spks, as you DO have enough PC, but HD files need a min. of 150mbps raid bandwidth, or you will get a render error trying to make HD files.

I do not believe this to be true.

Uninstalled SpeedEdit. New installation... and... same problem.
After restart... and... the problem will not go away, SE will not run.
What else can I do to get SE running???

Even though that you installed a new Audigy card, are you sure that you double-clicked your speaker icon, click Options and select the Audigy as your Mixer Device?
Martien

Yes..., the Audigy is the Mixer Divice.
The only thing I have seen so far from SE is the shortcut on my monitor.
Guys..., need some help here...

Compressed HD, sure. Uncompressed, I had to build a Raid0 or the Render failed.

Did you add the /3GB switch to the boot.ini? There is a doc/rtf in SE main folder.

The 3GB in boot.ini didn't work because windows don't start.
I am now trying to reinstall SP2.
Any more options???
Martien

Oke..., reinstallation of SP2 was no sollution. SE still won't run.
Help..., help..., help...

I'm wondering about SSE2 support, or the Video Card.
Martien
05-20-2008, 07:15 AM
The Xeon processors are from 2004 and SSE2 support started I think around 2002 so that could not be the problem again I think.
The video card is also from 2004 and is PCI AGP(8x) type. The motherboard offers only 1 PCI AGP slot.

Check the boot.ini for /3GB is the first entry or default, or set the seconds to show screen so you can arrow to the /3GB and boot. It is for extended addressing or commands for SE afaik. It also seemed to help a VT5 user with adding 3GB. 128 ram is on the AGP card, and might be best to not have dual monitor mode or tv out settings. Setup that ATI card for best performance on all attributes. I think you need a little more GPU in an AGP slot, 256meg or better, certainly to use SE on 2 monitors or even TV out. I understand from your system spec's you have a large investment. If you can even find an AGP card with 256meg or better is the issue. Sometimes it is just cheaper to do a full PC upgrade, and use your old gear as a LW or other dedicated system.

The 3 GB option boot.ini works a little. I can boot normal or 3 GB option.
I choose 3 GB boot the screens go black and nothing happens anymore.
A hard reset, I choose the normal boot and windows start just fine.
I don't have 3 GB of ram maybe that's the problem?
Over here are lots of AGP cards, up to 512 MB. They don't cost much, $ 50 - $ 150.
A full PC upgrade $ 5000 - $ 8000.
Buying a new videocard is gamble of SE will run. A gamble of $ 150.
Somewere I don't think the videocard is the problem, software is the problem I think.
In event manager/ application I find this error:
application error in speededit.exe version 0.0.0.0 - hangup in ntdll.dll version 5.1.2.600.2180 (0x000012b4)
Don't know what this is or what to do about it.
(Newtek tech support are you reading this? please help)

The speededit.exe version 0.0.0.0 - hangup in ntdll.dll version 5.1.2.600.2180 (0x000012b4) error is basically telling you that SE will not launch. The ntdll.dll file is associated with many applications. The error is equivalent to a standard application error.
When a user runs into the problem that you are experiencing it is usually due to not meeting the system requirements in some way. Software or hardware.
From what I can tell from your PC specs the problem may be the graphics card. As you can see from the system requirements we have on the site, for SE to run it requires a "DirectX 9-capable graphics card with 64MB RAM (per display) and a minimum 1280x1024 screen resolution (ATI or NVIDIA chipset recommended)"
The first thing you should do is download the latest driver for your video card, and also run DXDIAG from the Run dialog box to see if you have DirectX 9.0c installed.
Martien

Thanks for the reply.
DXDIAG...= directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
I installed the latest driver for the video card.
Dubble click SE..., no go again the same error.
The only thing I can think of now is a new video card.
In the AGP cards, what card do you advise to work with SE?
Martien
05-24-2008, 01:25 PM
Installed a new video card, "Sapphire HD 3850" ATI Radeon with 512 MB GDDR3 memory.
And.........., nope the same error and SE wil not start.
Now my system should run SE, all is there, what is there left why SE don't start???????
A REWARD for the one with the solution...,Newtek tech support mayby????
HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPP please.

You may have already done this, but just in case you haven't, have you checked out this thread?
http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82866
I don't know if it will help or if you're experiencing the same problem these folks did, but since it sounds like you've tried everything else short of reinstalling your OS, it might be worth a try...

Thanks, I know the thread.
Now I have somthing new!!!
After installing a driver update of the video card SE startup some more.
This time I could registrate and get a license key
Now SE is registered and start can go.
After a few seconds the first error apears:
"Beethoven API usage bad object ID = 008f6407"
Launch debugger ? yes/no.
When I choose yes apears a new error window: "error in realtime media engine launcher" 1 option: close.
After closing the window SE startup stops after a few seconds with the known SE error and that's the end of it.
When I a few staps back choose not to start debugger a endless list of error follows:
"Beethoven bad ID object : 0000000, 48504d53, 008f6064, 00070007, 00020002, 117e1188, etc, etc.
So where am I now?
Who can help me out here?

Thanks for the reactions.

You're probably better off with the new sound and video cards anyway.

Yep your right.
I work with VT3 and SpeedEdit and both want there one soundcard, now I have to switch software and audio (speaker) cable when I work with VT3 or SE
Both programs running at the same time is impossible.
The first problem I run in to now is importing a wmv file, transport file or mov file. SE won't import these files.
mvansomeren
05-25-2008, 08:19 PM
SE doesn't import wmv files. But it does import m2t (mpeg transport) files and .mov files. I did that as recently as this morning. m2t is how it captures HDV and lets you edit that format in real-time. In fact, you can edit .mov in real-time as well.

Yep your right.

Start SE with WinAudio, minimize, swap to VTaudio and start VT. Minimize VT and set the SE output to VT. You will have both SE and VT audio. If you don't have a BOB, you can also output VTaudio, to Line in on audio card. You should see a switcher input to a playing SE timeline. You can also have 2 instances of SE playing video at the same time. You should feel right at home in SE since you have worked in TEdit. This is where new SE users are finding problems, they never ran TEdit, to understand the workflow. Glad to hear your system is coming together. But imho, as soon as you can replace the mobo and cpu's to 1024-1066FSB and DDR2 or better, the more your going to like both SE and VT. I've a single 1024FSB 3.8AMD-FX DDR2 537mHz ram system, that renders 2-3 times faster than the old VT system, 800FSB 3.4AMD DDR400. One main advantage to new mobo systems, PCI buss no longer is sharred with GPU and harddrive busses.

SE doesn't import wmv files
What about "format independent" ? THE main reason why I bought SE?!
Martien
05-26-2008, 07:16 PM
But it does import m2t (mpeg transport) files and .mov files.
Not over here! m2t and mov files have questionmarks.
Am I missing something?

Not sure... perhaps the codecs didn't install? I know that you can download a codec pack from Newtek on the registration page...although I don't know if it will solve your problem.

New question....,
Speed edit won't work with USB(why not???), only firewire.
Is there a full HD camcorder with firewire output?
I am learning working with speededit, so far so good.
I follow the quickstart guide but on the content disk I have there is no folder "projects"?!
Are there more out there or am I the only one?!
Newtek.........., send me a free content disk WITH the "projects" folder (please).

New question....,

Firewire is the only standard method for sending DV or HDV into a computer as a "video playable stream".
If your camera has USB, it's looking for a file based access mode. That's not something that SpeedEDIT supports. Though if your camera came with a program to let you access the "files" on it via USB, you could use that to move them into your computer and then SpeedEDIT may be able to read them from there.
USB is not the normal way that HD camcorders connect to computers.

I don't know een camera with (full) HD that come with a firewire output. I only know them with a USB output.
SD camera's come with firewire output.
What brand have HD camera's with firewire output?
I can't find it by Sony, JVC, Panasonic.
So it seems, that USB is the normal way to connect the HD camera with the computer.
Yes I can use software form the Camera to convert and import files in to SE.
In my case I use a JVC everio GZ-HD7 full HD and this camera comes with USB output.
I use PowerDirector 7 to convert the transport files .TOD) to Mpeg2 files.
Jim_C
06-10-2008, 07:55 AM
The GZ-HD7 is a $1700 consumer camera that comes with a USB AND a Firewire out. According to the pictures I see.. they are right next to each other.
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/JVC-GZ-HD7-Camcorder-Review/Audio--Playback--Connectivity.htm
Firewire(aka...iLINK, DV, 1394) is the standard for movinf HD/HDV, not sure why you can't find it on the cameras, it's on all of them.
Martien
06-10-2008, 12:46 PM
Oke... did't know that. Still SE don't find the JVC when I have the firewire cable in the iLink slot. When I use a $500 sony SD camera with firewire output SE finds the camera direct. Same cable, same firewirecard, etc. That's why I thought iLink is not the same as firewire.
KiloWatkins
06-10-2008, 06:06 PM
That's why I thought iLink is not the same as firewire
You might not be able to use the iLink if you have both USB and FWire connected. Read that in anothers camera specs but can understand why both ports can not be used at the same time. Also, check your camera manual to do FWire to FWire recordings. There may be power up sequence, to do the same with a PC.
