I'm using DirectX 8.0 with Video Capture update. Which is the best version I should use (8.1, 8.2, 9.0a...)?
I can only track down 9.0a and I'm leary about new version software. I'm still using a VTNT v1.5...

FWIW, I'm using 9.0a with VT[2] and VT[3] beta with no problems.

Member "sbates" says that he uses 9.0a with no problem. Interesting that I've just spent a marathon troubleshooting session trying to track down some very flaky behavior in a new VT2 system.
SuperMicro P4DC6+, Dual XEON 2.4, 2GB RDRAM, 4 x 73 U320 Seagates (RAID-0), U160 onboard SCSI controller, nVidia FX5600.
The system ran great when I delivered it. The customer decided to install Win2K SP4 and all updates, and it "caused" the system to be unable to play back two streams simultaneously. Swapping out hardware...changing RAM...nothing helped.
I reloaded Win2K and S-L-O-W-L-Y started adding updates. Everything ran great until I added DirectX 9.0a. On restart, it had the same problems.
I'm not saying that it's DX 9.0a causing the problem; just that the combination of things (chipset, RDRAM, nVidia card, DX 9.0a, etc.) seems to be a problem.

I've been running VT[3] with DirectX9 without any problems. I'm also using the latest nvidea drivers, which I understand is crucial.
I DID have problems with VT2 when I was using 8.0. These problems went away with 8.1.
Thinking about it, 9.0 didn't seem to add anything noticably positive. I added it to try and fix a bug in another program....didn't work. I'd think that sticking with 8.1 would be safe, if you're afraid of potential problems.
