I just finished reading the BLAME! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blame%21) manga by Tsutomu Nihei. Needless to say the art and imagery in the series were really amazing. After finishing it I had the thought to model Killy's graviton beam emmiter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitational_Beam_Emitter). (His gun) If you haven't read the series, let's just say the gun kicks a**. And to say it's powerful is an understatement.
I've gone through all of the books, and the GBE looks slightly different in almost every view. So I've taken the views that I like the best and I've tried to come up with a single version that I'm happy with. I modeled the entire weapon using subpatches. I'll usually start with CC subd and then when I'm happy with the object I'll go back and get rid of all of the ngons and switch it to a subpatch object.
I might continue and model the GBE in its "Level 4 extra" mode, but I'm not sure yet. All modeling / rendering in Lightwave 9.3.1.

This WIP has actually been going on for a little while actually, but I figured that I'd post some of the images here. If you want to see all of the WIP images you can view them at my Photoshop express BLAME! gallery (https://jeffrysg.photoshop.com/?trackingid=BTAGC&wf=share&galleryid=b670d11e3c3142d4a926f6fd743aaed5).
The model is still all subd. I'm going to try to keep it all subd but I might freeze the mesh at some point to start to add some of the small details.
