Is there any difference in these two products? Or is it just the way it's labeled?

I have used the TriCaster VM on the VT as an RS-8. I can't remember any differences in operation.

The only difference is how the buttons are labeled. You can pull the key covers off and put your own labels on if you so desire.

We use the RS-8 on our TriCaster STUDIO exclusively, Amos. We've never connected to our VT[4] system, in fact.

That "NewTek RS - 8" silk-screening ought not bother you in the least, and you certainly can relabel those buttons, as Blaine suggested. Only give serious consideration to heeding previous exhortations to use a powered USB hub between your RS-8 and TriCaster STUDIO!

I don't know why I would need a powered USB hub, Peter. I think 6 built in USB ports is more than I'll ever use at one time.

RS-8's have a certain reputation for mysteriously crapping out. Some feel a hub eliminates the problem.

RS-8's have a certain reputation for mysteriously crapping out. Some feel a [powered USB] hub eliminates the problem. [edit and emphasis in bold, mine. -p.g.] Perhaps a more accurate adaptation of Steve's reply is: A few dealers have discovered that inserting a powered USB hub avoids the recurrence of some reported problems with both TriCaster VM and also RS-8 remote switcher failure and unexplainable operational dysfunction on some of these units.

Wouldn't want any to come away from Steve's reply, with the notion that an improvement in remote switcher performance with a powered USB hub is merely imagined, or that only RS-8 is involved.

Can you say "proven, increased dependability and reliability"?
All along, I've not been attemptin to cause you needless cash outlay, but to the contrary. Helping you... how did you once put it?
Helping you watch your a** or arse, or whatever.

Fortunately, you'll usually arrive at a heartfelt, thankful demeanor relative to these suggestions.

Wouldn't want any to come away from Steve's reply, with the notion .... I'll just say that I have a pretty fair idea of the extreme lengths Engineering went to to try to replicate and resolve the issue (which really impressed me, btw.) Until the fat lady sings, I'm going to continue to leave this in the realm of 'not fully substantiated' ... y'all are free to differ (not that I've anything against a powered hub, which is not a bad idea for other reasons as well.)
