I have to build a handle for a tool. At one end the handle is an octagon shape and about half way through it narrows and changes to a circle shape. I know I can extrude the octagon shape but how would one do a blending from one shape to another. While were at it, can you go from an octagon to a circle and back again?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The skin tool
The skin tool as Larry just recommended. I suggest you watch this video
by Proton that indicates the use of this tool:

You can also do it manually . extrude the octogon , and then select all the points and divide , stretch those to be more circular, then select the 16 points and extrude , divide again for 32. etc.
