Here is my latest project. Just started texturing and I have a long way to go (bump maps, dirt, details etc....) I am also planning on adding a cockpit, some missiles and landing gear. I will post updates when there is enough of a change.

Started adding more texture detail. The Germans have some of the coolest paint schemes.

Nice modelling and cool choice of plane - apparently as a kid I used to watch these take off in Wegburg from my paddling pool - beats TV any day ;)

Id say it looks good, bassically all you would have to do is make it not so perfect. perhaps a scratch or some thing to make it look more life like.

Very nice, I've always loved that airplane. Not many left. Canada retired theirs many years ago.
Looking forward to seeing updates!

Minor update, added some bumps and darker areas. Still alot to do (modelling and textures) I've also always loved this aircraft, it just looks fast.

Awesome work! I had one of these plastic models made as a kid with Canadian air force markings. The 104 was always one of those really retro-future looking jets. Man I need to finish unwrapping my messerschmitt. Did you do this as SubDs or straight polygons?

Looks very cool. If anything, I think the darker areas look perhaps just a bit too much like fractal noise. Maybe some adjustments there. The specular on the canopy looks a little too perfect too.
Very nicely blended wings/body.

Hi Steam, the model is straight polys right now but I did use SubD's and then froze them at a low setting to get the base shapes right. I wanted to keep poly count within reason (24823 polys at this time) and still be able to do some cutting. You will have to break out your messerschmitt and we can do some attack runs. The bomb I modelled for this one is a B-61 (yes I know it was a US bomb) which makes a VERY BIG boom and then an odd shaped cloud.
Thanks everyone for the comments so far, I still have alot to do on this one both texture and modelling wise.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Nice progress on the 104. I don't know my 104 history very well. Did it ever see combat action? It was part of the Canadian air force here but was never used. It would be great to put that in a scene.
Cheers!

24K polys is pretty darn good. Any chance of getting wireframe shots? After just spending massive amounts of time modeling and thinking in SubD I'm starting to appreciate just dropping stuff down to regular polys. My canopy framing in particular is just a gross waste of SubD so you've inspired me to experiment with some straight polys now.

Hi Steam,
Sorry about the delay but here are the wireframes. I like to use subD's but I've started using them for base modelling then going back to reg polys. I am working slowly on the landing gear now. I do not plan on rigging it I will just have one layer down and another up. I think it will end up around 75k polys when finished Be sure to post an update to your plane, I'd like to see the progress.

Wow! Sweet! Just the canopy glass looks a little too clean to me. I'm working on a fine scratches texture for canopy glass, I'll let you know if it works out. If you come up with something, let me know :)
Very nice!

Ronin,
Just had a chance to talk with a real 104 pilot this weekend. He has 30 years experience in the CF104 and F18 as well as others. It was sure interesting. He said if he had a choice to fly just for fun, he'd take the 104. Very powerful and just plain fun to fly.

Thats is really interesting Creative, the F-104 is an awesome looking plane and I bet it goes like a bat out of hell.
I think I have done all that I want to with this model. It finally ended up a hair under 70k polys and I am pleased with the overall look. It is meant for medium and far viewing and I did add some cockpit details.
Wow I love this stuff and it is great to totally immerse yourself in a project ( lightwave rocks ).
Thanks everyone.

Looks great!
Don't know if it's too late but here's a glass texture I've been working on.
It's very scale sensitive, but I kinda like the effect. I'm trying for the look you get when you clean plexiglass too many times and get fine scrathes.
Feel free to improve on it :)

Thanks Creative, thats a pretty nice plexiglass texture. Looking forward to seeing your finished B-17.

Great work on this. What's the next project? :D I can totally relate to this statement. Wife thinks I'm crazy looking at spotty photos of undercarriage and such. :) Been buried at work over the last month. Really looking forward to getting some 3D time in soon!

Hi Steam,
I think my wife enjoys me doing 3D work, she gets to choose the TV pograms when I am spacing out in a project. I already finished a quick project on light bulbs and I'm now working on a fire extinguisher.
