BG Render Options

In earlier versions, 'seems like there was an option on background render for a delay, so that the render would not start for a user-defined interval. I'm not seeing this on [5], and it's a bit of a problem for us. Every time we make an adjustment on a project that has a stack of layers (as most of ours do) the machine starts rendering instantly, making it difficult to make a series of changes.
Any solutions to this?

You can turn off BG render and just use the filter when needed.
A lot of folks have had to resort to that because of re-render craziness.
