This is my second model I've done in ProEngineer, it's my cellphone, I know it's old but it still works perfect. :)

I try to learn ProEngineer so I hopefully can get a job as a modeler here in my town. So I just model things I have around me here at home.
You can see my first model here http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80264

Sony Ericsson T300 modeled in ProEngineer and Rendered in LightWave 9.3.1

Enjoy!

Nice modelling, but I really like that semi-autopaint feel to the red texturing :)

Is ProEngineer any good these days? I know they lost a lot of ground to SolidWorks, but fought back with Wildfire I believe.

Very nice model and textures. How does the model import into LW? Can you post some wires? Is it modeled as all nurbs in PE?

ps. the usb drive is really nice too!! :D

kopperdrake: Thanks, yes the red metallic paint underneath the acrylic surface gives it a nice look.

Lewis: Thanks, yeah it's a very old phone and it's not great looking.

Matt: ProE isn't my preferd sotware to use, but it's alot better now then it was several years ago, it's quite similar to SolidWorks I must say, no big difference.

JeffrySG: Thanks, It doesn't import that well. I had to tesselate the object in several different pieces to get it in LW and still looking OK. It's quite a dense mesh, with LW not supporting vertex normals it's hard to take models from CAD/CAID software into LW. We'll see if NT has done anything on this in 9.5 otherwise it seems like TrueArt has developed a plugin to support vertex normals. Models are all solids/NURBS in ProE.

Sounds interesting! Do you have any more info on that plugin?
Im running all my proE models via Rhino (to tessalate) at the moment, and the biggest problem is running higher than needed poly counts to get around smoothing errors. Not such an issue for hi res stills, just fix in Photoshop. Another story completely with animations, especially if the product has a lens with a reflection playing across it.

Thanks for that info. I use CAD software at work for some of my structural designs - we use IronCAD - which I think is a little more popular in Asia than the west. But I never really tried to model anything and bring it into LW. I might have to give it a shot and maybe export the model as a OBJ or 3DS file. :)

Really nice work!

Gristle, and everyone else modelling outside LW; check out http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60529&page=4
From page 4 it gets interesting...

This plugin will save you hours of work and lots of frustration in the future, it's a must-have...
Send Sensei a PM or go through Trueart website to get hold of the plugin...
