hello, I did this work just for fun and play a little with the volumetrics, I still working on the windows, so far I'm pretty satisfied with the actual results

Rendered and post processing in Lightwave 9.3.1 (virtual darkroom and HDR exposure, bloom in photoshop).
GI: FG interpolated, intesity 120, 20 rays, 4 bounces.
Spot light with volumetrics set to medium and shadow map.
Perspective camera (1280 x 720 original) 3 antialias, AS 0.06.
Render time 2 hs 33 min (on AMD X2 4600, 2 gig of ram 400 mhz).

C&C welcome

Greetings, David

Nice image!

One thing I notice right off the bat is that your oculus (dome thing) has visible polies. And another thing I notice is that your lights on the side walls (the torches) make little bright puddles that don't look very realistic.

Also (I know I'm piddling here) your volumetrics would look a lot more spookier/moody if you tinted the color to blue or a darker yellow.

Otherwise, nice textures, nice render!

thanks inigo07, the dome things is very low poly, the only reason for that is I was to lazy, ;D. the torch: yes, you are right, perhaps the torchs are looking strage because I draw them my self, and for the volumetric I will try a yellow/orange color

thanks again, David

beautiful image! Great lighting and texturing!!!

Besides what inigo mentioned, you might want to tone down the specular on some of the walls. They seem almost too plastic shiny rather than stone.

I like the detail. I might suggest a slight bevel or ridge on the edges of the domes in the roof. Some of the bump maps may need to be in a smaller scale, depends on how much the stone has been polished and how old it is.

Can't wait to see the final render.

Nice job!

I'd love to see some sort of stained glass on the windows... playing with the light as it floods into the space...

I actually like that stained glass look, gives it a very nice ambience...but of course you never see the pattern of the glass on the floor as sharply as you have it. A cool look though.

very cool effect!

(is there a way to soften up the light a bit on the floor?)

I did a test with shadow map, but the volumetrics do not pass thru the glass, the area light do not suport the volumetrics, maybe with 2 light and some tweak do the trick

Would spinning the light get the softer stained-glass light-pools? I haven't tried it, but think it would work.....

Progress so far is looking really good :)

Yes, it's got a very painterly look to it - nice :)

Also looks very wet though.....nothing wrong with that - almost like a damp corner of an old chapel.

The only crit I might have is the sharpness of shadows within the volumetric light cone - everything else is now soft and smeary, but you have these fine dark lines that do detract somewhat.

Maybe this is better as a comp solution, but all the same the effect is good and I look forward to seeing the main shot with these tweaks added.

Julian.

thanks julian, for the shadows on the volumetrics I don't know how to soften up, if some one knows...

my work is consuming almost all of my free time, but I'm just finish all the tweaks and right now I'm making a render (2 hours and 19 min has passed, :D and the green bar says 41 % )

The lighting is creating great atmosphere, excellent ambience. My only criticizium is the stone on the walls, the specular is to high.

I would take the specular off all together and see how it works. At the moment the masonry has a wet look.

Ah, sweet!

Looks amazing. Like it came out of an illustrated Lord of the Rings or something.

Reminds me of the resident evil series! That's a good thing by the way! Liking it so far! Maybe needs more contrast or something, it doesn't seem as moody as it could be? Maybe it's my monitor though?

yep, I don't know what I touched :D , some how my bump layer was uncheck at the moment of the render, the rest is history

what a great game!, maybe is the camera angle and the spooky atmosphere, in my flat lcd monitor looks pretty sharp on the shadows and the light, perhaps is the gamma on your monitor, thanks.
