Just got back to working with 9.3 and discovered that when you load a layer now you get to pick the layer by name! No more playing 'guess the layer number' or having to take your socks off to count- I love it. It may not be furrey but it's the kind of little workflow thing that makes a big difference day to day. So a big thanks to whoever sorted this one out.

Yeah it is a nice little fix.
Is that native now? I've had DStorm's "Load Layer By Name" plug set in my file menu in my configs for so long now I guess I missed it - be great if it's native. Another little work flow stumbling block solved via the new development team! And one less plug-in I have to store... :D

Yeah I'm always on the looking to slim down the plugins I rely on.

native, but not as good as dstorm's, which i also use as the default. see, dstorm's gives you a list of the available layers for you to choose from. click click click and you're done!. if i remember right, nt's lets you type in the name of a single layer.

That does sound familiar now that you mention it. I remember thinking something along the lines of "well, at least I don't need to remember the number anymore. But how did I spell that?" and seeing as I suck at spelling, I reverted to the DStorm plug in. I'll have to check now, just out of curiosity if nothing else.

I'm right there with you, trying to slim down the third party plugs I use. I even actually move the Legacy plug-in folder to a new location before I start a fresh Modeler and Layout (so I can uncheck AutoLoad PlugIns) 'cause I hate having the original SkyTracer in there...
its a long list!
Very true, but I keep hoping it'll get shorter. Parts of it look like that's happening. Now if we could just get some Modeler goodness to go with the Layout happy we've been seeing in the 9.x cycle so far, hopefully the list will shrink substantially. :D

I don't know what LW you guys are using but I get a dropdown list that contains the layer numbers and the names.

OK - just tried out the Load Obj Layer (native NT solution) and it's much better than I remember it being. Don't know when that happened, but cool! Thanks for the heads-up everybody.
