Particle Explosion

i'm trying to animate a particle explosion. when i click on the envelope button next to explosion and try to set keyframes at 0 and 120, nothing happens. there is no change over time. the explosion envelope is only recognizing the first value in there.

the explosion value only gets applied to particles that haven't yet been emmitted.
