This is my first character that I am working on without following a tutorial. Credits go to Steve Warner who developed an easy method for modeling "spherized" wire mesh.
I have been using LW for only a few weeks so please keep the laughter to a minimum. ;)
Here are three test renders with different morph targets. I know there are still some problematic areas. Before I continue working on this character I'd like to read some crits and comments!

I like this idea... It's not the kind of thing you see all the time. And that's a good thing.
On the whole, it's a great start. You should spend some time in the eye area, though. The lids don't conform to the eyeball very well. Also, the brow area above the eyes ends rather abruptly. You could maybe soften that area, and extend each side a tad farther toward to outside of the face.
Your post says you've been using LW for only a few weeks. What were you using before? You must have some previous modeling experience, yes?

Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are absolutely right about the lids and the eye brows! I'm going to fix this. Right now I am modeling the body (well, it's just a microphone with an ON/OFF switch) and the limbs.
I have some 3d experience with programs like Bryce and Poser but this doesn't really count because these programs have no modeling tools. I have also been playing around with Wings 3D which is an excellent freeware mesh modeler.
I started modeling my first head by following Todd Grimes' head modeling DVD about 3 weeks ago. After that I did the head modeling tutorial in Dan Ablan's book "Inside LW 7".

:D O.K. I AM laughing :D Not because of anything technical, but because it it truly a funny character. May I suggest for his first outting a trip to the Kareoke bar (Kareoke; Japanees for "Drunk White man singing off key")
