layout: lost menu bar?

This may be a stupid question but I have lost the menu bar on the left side of my layout app. How do I get it back?

I forget what the default key command for General options is - I changed it a long time ago - either 'shift+O' or 'cntrl+O' - that's where the checkbox is for 'hide toolbar'

or

hit 'Opt+F9' to edit keyboard shortcuts, look under 'preferences' on the left for 'hide toolbar on/off' assign it to a key, like 'h'
