KOlson

Great. :) Only thing that bothers me is the crease on the upper part of the nostril on the side of the nose right where it meets the tip seems a bit to dramatic?

Mark,

Looking very good so far - I've actually modelled Freddy myself (but yours will end up being miles better than mine I think!).

One thing I have to say is the ears, or rather the tops of them - you need to deform them more, as if some has been bitten away - they're way too round and human right now.

Love the nose - spot on. Not sure about the extra squarishness you've put on the skull though...

You've got the proportions of the face right too - you can definately see a little of Robert Englund there.

Have you modelled his fingerknives yet? If so, could you give me some pointers (ohh, sorry about that - the pun really wasn't intended!)

Keep posting with updates!!!

Adrian.

I love freddy's films :D

adrian
07-13-2003, 02:48 PM
Whoa, you're actually MODELLING the burnt flesh!!! I used 40 layers of texture/bumps.

When your model is textured it's going to look awesome. Well it looks awesome now, but you know what I mean....

I don't want to distract you from your modelling time, but how are you going about putting in all that detail without totally screwing up the mesh?

BTW I love the way you have accurately blended his ears into his head to give it that melted look. Perfect. How did you do that? Hmm, I realise that's an impossible question to answer with a few words, so just get on with it!!!!!!!

I just wish I could see a video of you modelling him, like Dan Ablan does with his 3d garage stuff.

Mark,

One thing I meant to say in my last post.... do you have the DVD set or video set? The reason I ask is that with the DVD set there is a booklet with several close-ups of his face at various different angles.

If you don't have them then I can scan them in for you and email them to you if it's any help...

I also have a book with a few good pictures in - if you want any reference material just let me know. They're all black and white but still good quality.

I think his face was a little more on the pinkish side. :)

Tosk
07-19-2003, 06:27 PM
I think it needs a specularity map.
Probably it would be better if the "plagued" skin is glossy and the intact skin is more opaque and also less bumpy.. (those microbumps)

JDaniel
07-19-2003, 09:11 PM
Matt, using a negative on the spec. will give a felt look. Start w/ -20 and a low gloss.

The texturing needs to follow the scars and lines of his face - the "pits" and gaps in his skin are red exposed flesh but the rest is normal skin. At the moment the un-coordinated texture is destroying all that work you put into modelling his face. Id hate for all your good work to go to waste.

Are you gonna make the whole body or just the face?

Tosk
07-24-2003, 06:17 AM
mm strange, with this texture setup the skin seem to be flat and not modeled, it seem to be only a texture.. it has lost something.

For me the skin is still to shiny.. no advices, dunno what to think but regardless the beauty of the texture it is not still good.. :-/

Looking forward to the updates...

BTW is your tutorial only going to appear in Keyframe mag? How about 3dWorld?

I'm sure they'd be interested and it's much more accessible via stores (having been burnt once before I am now loathed to subscribe to a magazine via the web)

hrgiger
07-25-2003, 04:40 AM
Yeah, the eyes are a bit strange. Do they have any diffuse on them, they're pretty stark.

It looks like he just picked that hat up from the tailor because it looks brand new.

Otherwise looking good.

Matt
07-25-2003, 06:17 AM
looking good mark! well, as good as you can look when your face is all burnt!!!

two comments though - I agree the eyes are the weakest link at the moment, also I remember freddy having more of the pinkish skin than the red, too much red makes it look like he's bleeding as appose to charred skin.

adrian
07-25-2003, 02:34 PM
Mark,

The skin and texture is awesome - I think you're there.

I still don't like the eyes though, they look too.... I don't know - flat - as if there's nothing *behind* them if you know what I mean. They don't look like they're the gateway to evil!

I'm probably getting a bit ahead here and I'm sure you're well aware anyway, but don't forget to add bits of fluff/torn cloth on the extremities of his sweater, which as far as I can remember wasn't tucked in.

Are you using Deep Paint (or another tool) for the texturing/bump mapping or LW?

Anyway this is a world class piece of work - apart from those eyes. Sorry to be so scathing but I thought it best to be honest.

His head seems to be slightly(5-10%) too big on that body. Neck size is good though. Eyes too white.
Are you going too rip his clothes up?

adrian
07-26-2003, 12:57 PM
Mark,

It could be that you're working from a different version, but I think the knives are way too straight. Take a look:

But it maybe that we're working from different versions... anyhow the glove is great, will look good when it's on him!
