I have two computers, so this is only annoying, not earth shattering. I recently downloaded the latest version of Quicktime and now find that I cannot play William Vaughn's wonderful, let me say that again, WONDERFUL!!! series on that computer, though I can on the other computer.
In looking at the Apple forums, folks are blaming Flash. I've tried most of the suggestions, including uninstalling and reinstalling both programs.
I can view YouTube videos, just not William Vaughn's tutorials, which is strange and the reason I am making this post here. I get a question mark inside the Quicktime logo.
Since this is only an annoyance, I'd only like to hear from someone who has had and solved this exact problem. I can get all of the guesses and suggestions I need on the Quicktime forums. None have worked which suggests that even educated guesses are a waste of time.
Windows XP
Thanks

I got that same problem yesterday. I forced the movie to play through FireFox and it worked fine. However, I have no problems playing any of the .mov files through the regular (non-browser plug-in) player.
Hope this helps.

I had a problem playing Quicktime files a couple of weeks before XMas,
I purchased some of Splinegods tutorials from kurv studios and unfortunately there was no sound on them. Kurv studios sorted this before I even had chance to contact them, The problem turned out to be a bug in the latest version of quicktime (7.3) and was told to uninstall Quicktime and install Quicktime 7.2
( http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html ).
This solved the problem, perhaps it will help you.
PS. For all you mac users

Thanks Dave for the link but QT 7.3 works fine on my Mac, if there is a problem it could well be Windows related only. If 7.2 works for windows then grab it and use it.
One of the problems with windows versus Mac video players is compatibility, it can be shear frustration trying to find players that work for everything on both platforms. A lot of avi's just refuse to work on my Mac for example, even though i have the most current range of players out there.

Going back to 7.2 didn't work, and I now know why. In my struggles, I upgraded Flash to version 9. Big mistake!
Quoting from an apple forum:
"There are newer versions of Flash that weren't licenset to Apple. As such, Quicktime can only support what Macromedia at the time, and now Adobe allows. Additionally, if your version of Quicktime is 7.3.1, Quicktime supports NO version of Adobe's Flash (though I don't know if that's the message you'd get)."
While I was able to go back to Quicktime 7.2, I couldn't go back to Flash 5.
You might want to tell folks NOT to upgrade Quicktime or Flash if they want to see the videos that William Vaughn is putting out. Fortunately, I still have the old versons on one of mine.
Thanks for the help. Love this site.

Quicktime 7.4 was loaded before the last post. It doesn't work, but thanks for pointing that out. Sorry that I didn't mention that I had already tried it. Until and unless Apple gets a Flash license, I think that the problem will persist.
I just wanted to let folks know before they loaded the new versions.
