Hello All;
My brother just bought a new camcorder which he recently took on a trip. I believe the Cancorder is Canon's HG10 High Definition Consumer Camcorder. He has the the video files backed up on a Hard Drive which he's bringing over. I asked him what the filenames were thinking they would be .mpg, or .avi and he said he said they were something like .ts or .ts1. They are apparently raw video files that the camcorder created when first shooting the video. He said the compression is h.264 which is very new.

Can anyone tell me if VT-5 will be able to import this High Definition footage ? It doesn't look like it will render it but I could be looking in the wrong place. Thanks.

Did he intend to say mt2?
A good rule of thimb is to have QT Pro which is cheap. This will allow you to take any QT flavor and convert for SE. Not to mention export to any flavor of QT that your client may call for.
SE is weak on QT support, but for 30 bucks you can overcome this.

Hi Ted, etc ... ;
Thanks for the response. Actually it's definitely not Quicktime. The file format is .MTS. I believe it's called a Transport Stream.

I sort of got an answer but have another question. I tried it and VT-5/SE Will Not import it. There is only one application I found that I have that will allow me to work with it and that is Nero Vision. And it only allows me to import it and export it to DVD but I can't export at full HD resolution, only 720 X 480 Max.

Also, after exporting to DVD, I tried to bring it into SE but it crashed - I don't know why.

So my additional question is - Is there any software out there that will allow me to inport these files and convert them to a form SE will accept at full HD resolution, not just 720 X 480 ?

The HG10 seems to record 1440 x1080, just like HDV, but in AVCHD file format. There are numerous threads here about the state of support, workarounds, and ancillary applications - just do a search for "AVCHD."
