Hi all VT2-3 users,
my name is Eric Nolin, president of Digital Video, Montreal,Ca. I've been with Romain of Silence on Tourne yesterday at a JVC presentation of their new HDTV concept for consumer. It was simply amazing !!! And gues what, the HD video file is lighter than a very well encoded DV encoded video file..The quality is awesome! Far better than anything i've seen anywhere. It ESAILY compare to a big 3 chip camcorder. Their new way of decoding the colour is fantastic. No more RGB, but a fuul spectre of color is recognize by the chip. It has to be accepted by the VT3 soon. Premiere has already a plugin ( from Cine Form ) that help Premiere doing REAL TIME HDTV editing on multiple streams. AS everybody knows it, VT3 is by far, a better editor and offering that new option with no additional card would be a real plus:p ...Please Dr.Cross, Mr.Lara or any great guru of Newtek, for those who want to go to the Prosumer HD of JVC and their incredibly clean D-VHS, can you please consider that avenue. I don't think real HD with those 1000,000.00$ gear will be profitable for the next 3 years for anybody who didn't win the lottery. That kind of streaming the HD signal is revolutionary!!!

Hope to excite a new guy that will try to promote that new era of video editing

Have a great week everybody

A really proud VT3 user

Thanks for the report on the JVC. More details on the format will be very welcome, and although the aliens and their minions are quite busy with VT[3] just now I'm sure they'll be looking at it with interest!

p.s. - some of the best ideas are stolen, like your tag line :)

AH tabarnak Eric,

You had to take my line, that's ok I forgive you buddy.

The JVC HD cam is AAAAWWWWWWSSSSSSOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEE. Absolutely JAW DROPPING.

You owe it to yourselves to go see it in action and get a detailed review of it as we did with Eric. I was lucky to be on crutches to keep me from falling on my ***** all evening.

Quote from an article on BroadBand mag site

http://www.broadbandmag.co.uk/features/march_02/hdtv.htm

"Avid Technology reckons it has sold over a hundred of its DS-HD editing system in Europe, to facilities serving increased interest from producers who can now justify the extra cost of HD for certain kinds of production. Moreover, it is not just for material destined to be broadcast. The corporate sector is seeing more use of HD for big presentations and exhibition displays, where the more reasonable cost of making special venue productions in HD and its clear advantages in terms of quality of large screen display in busy environments such as trade exhibitions, has been recognised."

There is still some confusion as to standards so getting it wrong is an expensive mistake.

But if the aliens can make Toaster "format transparent" for HD in the same way as it is for DV, PAL and NTSC at the moment then we would rally have something to kick NLE ***

The point I was making is that it work be nice to have Toaster handle HD in its functional no fuss way.

I am sure Andrew Cross has something up his sleeve.

but in the absence of an alternative people will buy Avid, Now have seen them crash more times than I would care to mention, I am not a great fan of Avid, but there you go and thats the way it is.

One

The product hasn't been released yet, slated for a September 2003 release.

Two Its running on an SGI box always expensive.

Three,
Only the ODIN version mentions HD

I doubt you would get any change out of $15000
