I am just curious to find out how many Lightwave users have moved to Vista for their OS and how many are on 64 bit or 32 bit for either Vista or XP. Please choose what OS you use with Lightwave on your PC.

Voted for XP32, but will be moving to vista64, within the next few months on a new system (hopefully).

Vista 64 on the new machine. And no problems so far either - still, I'm looking forward to SP1.

Cheers,
Mike

Ok I use Win XP PRO 64 and Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit
on the same machine, but Win XP PRO 64 is more stable than Vista Ult 64 bit

I have a dual boot setup with XP 64 and Vista Ultimate 64, but I only voted once, for Vista Ultimate 64 bit, because at this point I don't even boot to XP anymore. I'm just leaving it there in case of some sort of problem and I can't boot into Vista for some reason.

Can I ask those with Vista 64 ...

Do 32bit XP apps run happily on it?

Would they access all of my 4GB RAM?

What's the driver situation like for Vista 64 these days?

Will I need 64 bit versions of all my plugins if using LW 64?

Ta!
:)

Thinking about going Vista 64 is all.

Most of them seem to run very well. I have some occational UI-glitches in LW though, but nothing major. Games seem to be little wonky; apparently there is a DX9.x avaliable for Vista x64 that probably would solve the problem. And yes, apparently you can have both DX9 and DX10 installed at the same time.

Would they access all of my 4GB RAM?

Simple answer: No. 32-bit, by defenition, is limited to access 2GB ram, on the other hand, Vista has supperior memorymanagement, and some of the scenes I've tried feels faster to manage under Vista compared to XP 32.

What's the driver situation like for Vista 64 these days?

Well, I have a pretty new setup, but Vista was able to install drivers for my motherboard without me having to put the CD into the drive. Many of the drivers are still 32-bit though, but I havn't noticed any strange things. NVidia have 64-bit versions avaliable.

Will I need 64 bit versions of all my plugins if using LW 64?

Yes. A good idea is to have both 32 and 64 bit LW installed though. :)

If you can, create a dualboot of WinXP 32 and WinVista x64... just in case! ;)

Using, XP 32 at home. Still running Windows 2000 at work. new laptop has Vista 32...not so fond of it, so I partioned it into a dual boot and installed Ubuntu and Blender.

Yup.
Would they access all of my 4GB RAM?
Most of it... 3-3.5 GB or so, I haven't checked the actual limits.
What's the driver situation like for Vista 64 these days?
Probably better than for XP64. All of my stuff works, but I don't have any exotic hardware in the box.
Will I need 64 bit versions of all my plugins if using LW 64?
Yup.

Cheers,
Mike

I knew I should have put an option for Windows 2000. That is a nice clean OS! Good to here some still use it.

Dual boot XP64/Vista64, Vista's still a bit flaky, doesn't like my external HD and NVIDIA driver's are lacking a few features.

Moved from XP 32 to XP 64 and im very happy with the extra ram I can now use. :boogiedow
As others have said though installing both 64 abd 32 bit Lightwave is very useful. Allows full use of all plugins, A prime example is SasLite, it is not installed on the 64-bit version as the plugin has not been recompiled for 64.
