During bootup, Scsi config shows a problem with a Scsi drive in my stripe set with an error, "SCSI ID3: ASYN Start Unit request failed". Checked the power cord to the drive that it seems to be and it seems ok. It was working fine then BAM, it won't start and my stripe set isn't being recognized in My Computer. Help!

I don't know enough about SCSI to offer any detailed advice on the boot-up error, other than opening up the case and checking all the connectors/cables are firmly in place.
Assuming you're using Windows to stripe the drives, if one or more of them fails, Windows won't be able to mount the stripeset, which is why it doesn't show in 'My Computer.'
If you go into the Disk Management console (in Control Panel, Administrative Tools - Computer Management) you should see all the indiivdual drives, with the bad one marked as 'failed' or something like that.
If you can't get the failed drive working, there's probably no way to recover any data which is not backed up...

Undid my stripe set and in Computer Management, my problem drive is listed as missing, with a red X on it. As per Win 2ooo insructions, I tried to reactivate it, but when I do, I get a pop-up window that says "The specified disk cannot be located."

Sounds like it may have gone to the big Breadbasket in the sky :(
You could try reseating the cable, but it's probably gone. I've had two of the drives on my original IDE stripe set die in the past year, but they were part of my original VTNT VT[1] system so have had a lot of hard use.

Yes, I think that you're right. It's aggravating because this was a brand new harddrive, only a couple of months old.
Just out of curiosity, I did a little digging in System Admin. and went through the System Logs. I found an error code on the problem drive that stated something about a bad sector.
It shows up as "Missing" in Sys. Admin. but doesn't show up at all in My Computer.
I'm fairly sure it's Toasted.

I can understand the frustration. I had 3 of my 4 SCSI drives fail within 2 weeks of first use.
It ended well though, as 2 of the 3 failed drives (Quantum Atlas 10KII) were replaced by newer U320 Atlas10KIII models :)

Out of curiosity, what brand and model drive was it? And, yes I beleive your drive has faced the final curtain. I have been using seagate 36GB drives with a 1.5% failure rate so far.

Just for the info, the drive that went bad was a Seagate Cheetah LWC 73.4 GB drive.
After getting a new one sent to me and resetting my striped set, everything was working ok again.
