View Full Version : Trimming AVI & Corresponding WAV Files in ToasterEdit

I've got separate AVI video and their corresponding WAV audio files (from DV footage captured via my RT-X.100). I noticed I was able to trim video and audio simultaneously in the DDR (from what I read in the manual). Is there a way to trim an AVI file and its corresponding audio file simultaneously in ToasterEdit? I'm reluctant at this point to trash my files and start over again and capturing uncompressed with the VT2. Any suggestions? Thanks.

DDR and ToasterEdit are actually the same engine...different skin. So, it'll work. Besides, all such edits are non-destructive.

Paul,

Thanks for the reply. When I placed an AVI video file and its corresponding WAV file (generated by my RT-X.100), as I expected, I heard no audio (since they are separate files) when I trimmed the AVI file only. As in the Flyer, I figured if I played them back as a ToasterEdit project, the audio should be in sync with the AVI file if I performed no trimming. When I need to trim an AVI file, however, I of course need to trim the audio file simultaneously and I prefer using ToasterEdit over the DDR since I like ToasterEdit's storyboard feature better. I've also read in this forum of Matrox AVI file compatibility issues with the VT due to a problem with the codec. I read there were problems with the codecs for the RT-2000/2500 and not sure if I'd have a problem with my RT-X.100 as well. I have numerous files I've created using the RT-X.100 that I hate to delete and install VT3 and use it to batch capture the footage all over again. Any suggestions?

Is the Wave file locked to video file??? I don't think you need to have the Matrox codec installed to read Matrox files...

Faraz,

The WAV file is not locked to the AVI file in VT2 and VT2 can't link them for editing. From talking to Jim Davis at DVS Direct (he's familiar with the RT-X.100 and VT2), the Matrox codecs separate the files for use in the Adobe Premiere timeline. He recommended capturing DV footage using one of Adobe Premiere's standard DV settings so I'll get one file with video and audio. Blaine Holme recommends not using the Matrox VFW codecs on with VT2 installed because of compatibility issues. He agrees on not needing any Matrox codec installed to read Matrox files though. I'm going to have to delete the Matrox codecs if I can find them, delete the separate video and audio files and batch capture using Adobe Premiere as I mentioned above.

That will work as I've done that before.

After I posted my last message, I found out that the Xtreme upgrade will interleave video and audio files, but I'm assuming Matrox encoding is part of those files and could interfere with the VT. I like Matrox' batch capturing capability, but am concerned with those files not working properly on VT. Are you running an RT-X.100 and, if so, do you have the Xtreme upgrade? In your last reply, when you said, "That will work as I've done that before", does that imply you've deleted Matrox codecs? Did you use Adobe Premiere's codecs to capture video and audio? I assume if you delete Matrox codecs files you no longer have the Matrox batch capture capability.

Couldn't you bring in the Matrox AVI and audio files into the timeline and then just group them into a subproject?
