Not quite sure what this is:D , except that it was fun to get it rendered.
Starting from one of the video tutorials that WilliamVaughan (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76843) is cranking out, I modified his technique so that Layout could use HD Instance.

movement would be very nice, agreed.
a dual quad-core machine and 8G RAM to bring render times down under 2hrs/frame would be nicer:D . any philanthropists out there willing to donate?:help:
thx to all for the positive remarks. much appreciated!

well, you could render it at 25% size... that'd get the time per frame down. :)
How did you modify the technique to work with HD_Instance?

Hehe, see - mad I tells ya! ;) :D
You know what would be cool - texture it based on a wieght map for some cool colour flow. :)

...texture it based on a wieght map for some cool colour flow. :)
definitely a cool idea. the limitation is that all those pins are not geometry. they're instances, and afaik, anything more than the simplest color changes from pin to pin are not possible w/HDI :(.
this scene with geometry would require one of lawrence livermore labs' crays to load and render:phone_cal
wonderful responses guys, much appreciated!
