View Full Version : Overcoming objections

My church is ready NOT to buy the Tricaster for one reason. I don't know everything there is to know about the tricaster so maybe you all can fill in the blanks. They say that when they're done with the show, they have to export to a quicktime movie so they can edit it in Final Cut Pro. This process is in real-time. They're saying it's not worth it if we have to spend 1 hour rendering for a 1 hour show. If the tricaster saves natively to an uncompressed avi, wouldn't it be faster to drag the avi into a timeline in FinalCut Pro and render it from there? At least it would be faster to render the video that way right? What do I say to diffuse this objection and convince them to purchase a Tricaster?

??? WHAT ???

Find another Church.
They're morons.
That's not bs...find new friends stat.

My TriCasterPro is switching two Canons and up to five Sennheiser remote mics through a Peavey mixer and the presentation graphics, lower thirds, transitions, wipes, music and titling are added in situ.

When the LIVE show is done I have an instant copy of the entire show "in the can", in the TriCaster.
The only time lag is copying it to www.audiovideoweb.com to archive it. But that's AFTER the live show has streamed. If they want to archive to mov files that's fine. I use WMV, but whatever make the lummoxes happy!

If you count the tape in the cameras I guess you could edit that in an NLE.......but why?

The only snag I've hit with the system is getting out through our company firewall that was setup under the direction of a staffer who's as much a know-it-all, sanctimonious, UTTERLY ignorant a**hole as the "they's" you're dealing with.

Anyone who's that willfully ignorant probably approaches most things that way, and is likely apostate too. All "they" have to do is read the online specs for all 3 TriCasters... it's all in there.

Don't walk, RUN from that Church.

If you want me to talk to them, I'd be thrilled to. But don't expect them to be happy when I'm done.

P.S.:

Lest you be left with a justifiably righteous attitude, but nothing to tell them...

Their 'editing' will be done while it's happening.

If the FCP-masters want to contribute, they can add all their goodies as clips that you'll mix in as it happens.

The big change for them will be, they'll have to plan the show ahead of time, like a real production, instead of cutting it together in post.

If they think they will need to edit an already-mixed service (which would be unnecessary if planned properly, unless you were trying to fit it to a 30 minute slot or something), why not record the output of the Tricaster directly to FCP, just use "Capture Now" on your Mac and directly record the output of the Tricaster. (They can even do it on a Macbook)

Yep, that's the way to do it.

Not to mention Tricaster has an editor built in, so even if edits are needed, you don't need to export to do it.

If you'd like some of the documentation I provided my church's board of deacons with when we were considering the move to service video, shoot me a PM with your e-mail address. I've got some presentation info in an MS Word document that basically puts into layman's terms the ideas behind live production and the advantages specifically of us going to the tricaster in terms of getting what we needed done with a minimum of man-hours involved.
