View Full Version : Weirdly Long Launch Time!

Has anyone had (and solved) this problem? I've recently gone on a campaign to retrieve some of my C: drive partition's meager space by uninstalling a number of apps that were installed there and reinstalling them on another partition. All was going well (I would diligently do the deed one at a time and test each new install before doing the next) until I came to Lightwave. Since I did the reinstall the launch times for both Layout and Modeler have become excruciatingly long. The initial window comes up instantly, but then it takes about 45 seconds for the interface and button menu to appear. My guess is that maybe the registry didn't get updated for some reason during the uninstall and/or reinstall. I don't know, nor have I ever had the guts to try regedit to mess with that stuff.

Does anyone out there have a similar experience or some inkling what's going on and how to fix it?

Do u have some kind of firewall in your system,
if so that could be ur problem.
I have Norton Internet Security and it takes a long time to open LW.
TIP:Try lunching the Hub first before u lunch Layout or Modeler, and see if it still takes long.

Thanks. Yes, I do have Norton Firewall, but it doesn't seem to be the problem. When I disable it there's no change, and I tried the fix suggested on another thread - making an exception rule for the three ports that LW uses for Hub, Modeler, and Layout - and that didn't help. In fact, sometimes Modeler won't completely launch no matter what - it just sits there forever with the main window showing with no interface screens, and when I click on the window it turns white and gets stuck in a "program not responding" mode.

I did try launching Hub first, but this doesn't help. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I had the EXACT same problem. What made it go faster though, (and i dont know why....) was i gave it time to 'get used' to my computer. I know that sounds weird, but....after a little while....everything just opened faster and faster.....so um...yeah

This might not work, but u can try to delete all of ur configuration files( .cfg ), maybe something got messed up.
note: ur .cfg should be located in :<WIN DISK>:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME \
(under Win XP & 2K)

U probably already try this, but try reinstalling it one more time.

Also, I don't think it has to do anything with the registry,
LightWave is one of those great apps the doesn't put junk in the registry.

Good luck...

Well, I'm not at all convinced about the registry not being involved, and I am finding that launch times have improved a bit as the system gets "used to" my new Lightwave install. So scoober may be right. As to the .cfg files, yes, I've deleted them several times - all of them - but this has not helped.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions.
