View Full Version : Why would I choose to use Speed Razor instead of VT2-3?

It came with my new system and it looks to me, after a cursory review of the manual, that it duplicates a lot of features in VT. Are there special features in SR that people like to use that aren't in VT?

Thanks,

Tom

Speed Razor provided plug-in support and comes with VT2 only. Some people were use to Speed Razor from the VT1 days.... It is no longer needed.

Can't speak about VT3, but speed razor is the only way that I know of to do batch capture from a tape deck and frame accurate insert editing back to a tape deck if you have VT2. We master all of our commercials to 60 min BetaSP tapes. Without speed razor, you have to hook up an external edit controller for the same capability to insert into a tape. Once speed razor is correctly set up, it is very slick for what we use it for.

Very True...

But VT3 is supposed to have intergrated Batch Capture & Print to Tape. This should make life easier because you'll only have to use 1 program

Yeah, but it won't have true plug-in support still, and now it doesn't ship with Speed Razor. I understand it is supposed to export TED timelines as avi but you'll need to purchase another editing app that supports plugins like Speed Razor or Premiere, etc. in order to use most mainstream plugins. I'm still interested to see how well this will work bouncing back and forth between apps like that.
