Just made this new light rig and wanted to test it out. 1 area light renders pretty fast.

Hello Doctor,
You should have posted sooner: you have some nice models on your site.

The lighting seems to work. My one question is whether you really like the hot spots on the dalek`s metal front, above and below the blue balls? Dropping the material`s diffuse value would sort it out I think. On your site you have a dalek with golden parts, but I`m not too sure if these are really meant to be `gold` or some form of highly polished, yellow plastic material. If you`re going for gold, try knocking the diffuse down to 30, 40%.

Then there`s the polygon banding on the weapon housing. That looks like the fault of booleaning it into the body. I try for seamless meshes, myself, but if the boolean`s giving me problems I`ll just shove the polys together and not worry about it! :)

One more thing: if you`re going to render at really high resolutions like you`ve done on your website, your models will need more micro bevels. It`s a painless operation if you`re on a PC; you just install the EdgeBeveler plugin (Flay) and away you go.

Oops! Looks like I`m savaging you a bit. Don`t mean to be hard, but when I see easy ways of making things look miles better, I can`t keep my mouth shut. Hope you don`t mind!

Liked your own dalek design modifications; and the model of the original dalek sketch was a revelation!

Cheers!

Thanks. I've made a lot of them free for download so enjoy.

I don't overly enjoy the hotspots, but it was just a test render.

Your right. I don't know where that came from. Could be because I had my radiosity set to 6x18 and the reflection up. Never had that appear before So I'm going to blame that ;) Also the aluminum part of the shell has a micro brushed texture to it. That might bring out that when reflection is enabled.

I always micro bevel the straight edges if I can. In fact I'm crazy about beveling the edges(Just look at my TARDIS model). What is the full name for the EdgeBeveler? all I could find was EdgeBevelP.zip.

Oh, man. A Dalek with blue balls... no wonder all they want to do is EXTERMINATE :D
