hi gurus

i have a model in 3ds format imported from sketchup, i clean them up in lightwave by making them quad or non tripoly. at the end the total polys i managed to get from cleaning the model is almost 400,000. so i thought lightwave can easily and quickly render them, but it wont even start to render and it just crashes or give an "out of memory" box. my system hp4400 workstation with 3gb memory. do i have to redo the model in lightwave? i did a test with 500k poly (ball only) modeling using lightwave and it still cant render it. i thought LW can handle million of polys. help please

I guess it is your LW GI settings, using interpolated?
Can you try this in FPrime? I often render scenes with more polygons.

Have you tried eliminating all double points and all non-planar polygon?

Have you tried doing it through F10? I'd also agree with using fPrime if you have it. The next thing I'd say, is that if you're using a 32bit OS, you'll be limited even if you got another 1GB of memory in your PC. That's why ended up going to XP64bit. It's got it's pros & cons, but I like being able to use all the RAM I've put in, not be capped off due to the OS.

It all depends on your frame resolution and GI settings. Could you give those to us?

-vsele - i did deleted non coplanar and 2 points poly for my second try and
rendering still freezes.

-juggernaut and erwin - i have talk to my boss about that 64bit system, sounds like he is going to change my workstation and for the fprime, i think it will take a while to purchase it.

-exception - my settings are:

camera type = perspective
antialiasing = 10
mitchel sharp, fixed sampling,
adaptive sampling on, threshold 0.1

render global setting;
shadow on, reflection and transparency are "on"
interpolated final gather
one sided area light (although i uses direct light)
render line "off"
noise reduction "on"
ray rec.= 16
radiosity intensity= 100
bounce = 3
RPE = 90
tolerance = 0
MES = 20mm
Mps = 4

i just used a blueish white background.

all help will be very much appreciated. i ended up using the demo version of vray for sketchup and it renders below one hour time, but i am not satisfied with the outcome. thanks
