Hey everyone:
I was going to start my first ever DVD video project using SpeedEDIT, over a month ago, but I’m just getting started now. So I’m very anxious to get going.
I need some advise as I begin the project. The video was taken using several DVC tapes in wide screen format. The video is in Spanish language and will be viewed in the US, South America, and Spain.

Should I make two videos one using NTSC the other PAL.

I have used 1080i while trying to learn l little about the program, should I use this or another format.

Any help will be welcomed.
Thanks,

Del

There was a thread on this recently. PAL DVD players now can understand NTSC, if I remember the answer. Are you burning to Blu-Ray?

GoodLuck on the out come.

Most PAL DVD players have been able to play NTSC DVDs almost since DVDs wereintroduced (It was only UAS paranoia that makes NTSC DVD players diabled for playing PAL DVDs).
BUT
Many 'PAL' DVD players will play the NTSC DVD and output an NTSC video signal - so only a multistandard TV will show the picture (almost all PCs/MACs with DVD playing software will have no trouble.
SO, you probably need to provide 2 diferent output mpg files - no trouble for SpeedEdit.
Personaly, I would always do the edit in the same format as the source files which you say are from DVC and are presumably widescreen NTSC, so you should probably be starting your project with the 'NTSC DV 16x9' setting.
IMHO you would be wasting an awfull lot of disc space and processor time if you tried to 'upgrade' your source material.
1080i is for 1080i material which has almost 6 times the number of pixels per frame as NTSC - you can always sneak bits of lower res footage into a HD project and use SpeedEdit to 'upsize' it though.
Once you gave finished your priject you can render it twice using the standarfd presets (picking bitrate to suit disc space)- once as NTSC 16x9 m2v and once as PAL 16x9 m2v - so resizing/retiming only happen once to that final output.

Thanks for the replies:
Ok I’ll make DV 16X9 in both PAL and NTSC on DVD + or – not Blu-Ray.
I have already begun the project, and I’m still editing as I learn, but I already set the video up as a 1080i. I was thinking photographs and graphics (move from large to small not small to large).
Can I rename the file or do something so I don’t have to download from tape again and redo my editing.
Thanks,

Del

Just save the project, open another project size(PAL), and reload the project. You have ToolShed user presets, top entry, where you set you pic size and zooms ect.. and Save in TShed. Use a Logical naming for it, then select other pics and click perform in TShed. Keep asking questions and you'll get this job done.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply.
I'm doing the last (I hope) editing on the video portion tonight and in the morning. I'm going to use your advice and ask some more questions after I post this.
Thanks again KiloWatkins and Adrian@Stufish for all the help.
