hello everyone

i have been trying to develope some of my character work of late and here is the latest effort. Its not my strongest area but i am getting better i think.

I made a matte painting for the Background then everything was modeled and textured and rendered in LW.. only some slight retouch in PS..
i used ACS4 for the rigging of the character as i suck totally at this area.

cheers
Neil

I'll take third. Really nice looking.
Although the bottom heaviness did catch my eye, I'm not going to say it's "wrong". He's wearing heavier armor on his legs than his torso. Maybe there's a reason for that. It gives him a little character.

Ski shoes?!
Awesome!

Those swords should have some braces so he can use them as skis.

Very nice!

So, being totally new to occlusion renders, how do you do them if you've got all sorts of surfaces already set up on a model?

I agree with the bottom heavy feel, more so in the final render than the occlusion render, probably because of the lower camera angle in the final. Other than that, nice work.

well normally for occlusion renders you can simply use a second copy of your object and replace that in the occlusion scene or change the surfaces to the occlusion node and just not save your changes but thats risky !!

thanks for all the replies

This is why we need render passes.

It's pretty easy and fast to render Occlusion pass when copying one occlusion node surface over other surfaces in surface editor, but like bearfoot said - it is risky! I was this '' close to screwing my objects just the other night when trying to do this after staying wake way too much...

PS. And bearfoot, very nice image! The mood and athmosphere are especially good.

Yes, impressive. Only thing I don'ty like is his expression, which does look rather like he's just smelt something nasty...

Great use of colour and detailing though.

I really really like the effect, lighting and the render but I don't like the guy much. He looks a bit ...gay? (not that there is anything wrong with that of cause) Just that with all that armour and those big blades he should look a bit tougher. Still - wish I was half as good as you are at this stuff.
