Hi,

I was wondering if threre were any of you switching with VT4 on a micro ATX system? I would like to build a micro ATX system to host VT in lieu of the new 64 bit drivers and the lower processing (r/w) demand of VT5. My current VT4 supermicro based system is tooo big to move around.

Here are the components with which I am planning to build my new system:

- Thermaltake Lanboy case (http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Chassis/miniCase/lanbox/vf1000bws.asp)
- Intel quadcore or AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual processor
- WIN XP2 64bit
- 2 Gig RAM
- 1 IDE System Drive
- 4 Seagate SATA RAID (might consider an external e-SATA box)
- DVD burner
- nVidea video card
- Micro ATX Motherboard ???

The main tasks that I use VT for are switching and streaming simultaneously. I do not use the DDR or CG in a live environment.

1. What Intel quadcore processor based micro ATX motherboard with a 66mhz PCI slot would you guys recommend?
2. My editing PC is equiped with a dual core AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual 4200+ Asus M2NPV-VM micro ATX system. Would this system work or should I go with an Intel quadcore for more bang? (Asus M2NPV-VM - http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=0&model=1138&modelmenu=1)

Either way I need one extra PC. I appreciate all your inputs!

Thanks!

Wait till November 12th thats when the new 45nm quads come out.
Faster and of course pushing the price down again.

I wish I could waite that long. I have a PC that I use for MS Office and the internet die. Hence, I am thinking of using my current AMD dual core for MS Office and build a new quad core PC for video editing and VT use.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Wess,

From my experience with LANBOX sold by Jef, I was under impressed that it ll be a perfect box for me to use for VT4 however it does not fit VT3 card very well in the box. You have a choice to make by lose another two sata connectors to run 2nd or 3rd hard drives. The card will be very tight in the box itself. I dont know about VT PRO card's size compared to old one. If it is the same one, dont buy LANBOX. Its pretty BIG and HEAVY :)

My main wish for Newtek to release SX-9 for up to 4 cams which I dont normally shoot live events with 8 cams or so. I rather to have VT4/5 over Tricaster due to more control of live streaming and other apps off the same machine anywhere than carrying one machine dedicated to one task then more equipments to carry around for post production!

We build Intel based Micro-ATX based systems all the time. I would avoid the LanBoy case it's a pain in the you-know-what to work on (everything loads from the top) and it weighs around 17 lbs empty.
